Usually, I’m not a big fan of writing Holiday shopping guides, I kind of think they are a waste of time and surprisingly hard to put together. I figure most of you already know what you want for Christmas so how is putting together my own personal wish list of junk going to help you? As an exercise in long windedness I’ve put together my Holiday Gadget guide (Blu-ray and App guides are later in the week) – it’s more of a wish list so go to Amazon and buy some of this stuff for me.
MSI Wind Top AE2220 All-in-One PC
As many of you know, I’ve been fighting with my 13 Inch Macbook for the last year. I hate that the Macbook only has 2 USB Ports, Leopard sucks, and I have a million other gripes about the machine. I’ve finally given up and went back to my crappy Dell Laptop hooked up to my 24 inch monitor. But what I really want is a nice 21 – 24 inch All In One PC. The newly released MSI Wind looks pretty darn sweet, it has Win 7, 4g of DDR2 Ram, 500 Gig Hard Drive, Wireless, Touchscreen (which I don’t understand the point of) every port you can imagine, it runs on a lame Intel Dual Core 2.1 Processor. All for about $800.
HP TouchSmart 600-1050 23-Inch Black Desktop PC
I reviewed the Win Vista 64-bit Version of this machine last year and LOVED it. It had an amazingly beautiful screen and the best built in speakers that I’ve ever heard on a PC. Again, I don’t understand the point of touchscreen computers, why would you want to get dirty fingerprints on your beautiful screen? This particular version has 750GB 7200RPM Serial ATA hard drive; Slot-load SuperMulti DVD Burner with LightScribe Technology, 23 Inch Touchscreen, Win 7 Home Premium 64-Bit and it’s only about $1,100.
Apple iMac MB418LL/A 24-Inch Desktop
As much as I hate my Macbook, I think I could be happy with an 24-inch iMac. I know how much you annoying Apple fanboys love to try and convert people. So here’s your chance, buy me an iMac.
Casio Exilim EX-FS10
I like Casio’s lineup of digital Cameras. They are lightweight and take a decent picture. They have this weird High Speed mode where you press the button once and it’ll automatically take 30 shots in a few seconds. It’s one of the more expensive point and shoots at around $180, but I like it.
Nikon D90
I own the NIkon D60 DSLR camera and love it. I feel so professional when I carry it around at an event, on the other hand it’s really big and bulky, surprisingly not heavy. If you are in the market for an DSLR camera you can’t go wrong with any of the Nikons, the D90 is the current model and costs about $1,000. If I were you, I’d get the D60 it’s half the price and I don’t really see what’s different in the D90.
JVC Everio GZ-HD320 120GB High-Def
What’s not to love about this JVC Everio? It’s super small, lightweight, shoots in High-Def and has a built in 120 GB Hard Drive. The Picture quality is very nice. I love shooting on Hard Drive, it’s so much easier than dealing with tapes. The only thing I hate is the standard 2 hour battery life. When are they going to create a Camcorder battery that will last at least 5 or 6 hours?
Sony HDR-FX7
If any of you PR Agencies are reading this. This is how you get on my good side, buy me a Pro-Summer level Camcorder. This Hi-Def Sony HDR-FX7 should do the trick. Small, lightweight contains enough power for me to finally film that movie and television show that I’ve always wanted to shoot. It’s the perfect gift, something that I really want, but would probably never buy for myself. All my love can be bought for the silly, low cost of $2,000.
Canon GL1
The original Pro-Summer Camcorder, the Canon GL1 can finally be had for a very reasonable price of $700 (Used). The newer GL2 is $2,000. I don’t really see what the difference is between the GL1 and GL2 is, so I would just get the GL1. This is something that I actually may purchase for myself, yeah neither model shoots in HD and both use miniDV, but many an indie film in the early 90s was shot on the GL1.
EP1272 Swede-Atsu Massage Lounger
I saved my most wanted item for last. I desperately want a massage chair to sooth my poor pitiful soul. Every time I’m at a mall I seek out a Brookstone so that I can get a good 20 minute message. I pay a professional massager about $100 for a one hour massage, so the $2,500 prices seems strangely reasonable to me. If you want well written and thought out articles, then get me this chair. I write much better when my body feels like Jell-O.
