Synopsis

HISTORY™ presents the television event of the summer: EXPEDITION AFRICA: STANLEY & LIVINGSTON.
Watch the series premiere May 31 at 10pm/9c. Twenty miles off the coast of eastern Africa, four modern-day explorers are sailing toward the unknown, the deep interior of Tanzania. They’ll travel over 900 miles through African terrain that is as stunning as it is fraught with danger. Using only a compass and basic maps, they will attempt to recapture the spirit of one of the world’s most remarkable adventures—journalist Henry Morton Stanley’s perilous 1871 journey to find Dr. David Livingstone. Their historic exploration has been captured by one of the premiere storytellers of our time, Mark Burnett. This is not a competition or a game. It’s a real-life adventure. 1. I havent had many travel experiences growing up, Ive spent most of my time inside watching the History channel and Animal Planet envisioning myself trekking throught the thick grass lands of Africa or the jungles of the Amazon. My dream travel experience would be one through Africa. I am somewhat of a wildlife enthusiast and I have over a hundred books on African wildlife. Elephants, lions, snakes, I want to see them all up close and personal. I would want my journey to start in Kenya, a country where the Grassland/plains habitat is abundant. In these habitats you can find some of the worlds fastest land animals, such as the Cheetah and the Gazzele, I would then head south to South Africa, photographing every plant, every animal, every person, and from there head north towards the largest desert in the world, The Sahara, oh man, this dream of mine goes on forever. I would want to make a living out of it. I am now in college majoring in Vertebrate zoology and environmental biology, and I plan on becoming the greatest wildlife expert/photographer/explorer of my generation.

  2. My favorite travel experience todate is when I flew to California to be the best man in my buddies wedding. I was a much younger man at that time. We went to the Comedy Act Theater and I saw a young Robin Harris who was MCing the show before he became a famous of he was. At that time he was very good and he cracked jokes on just about everyone in the place. Another friend of mine Clifton Powell was also at the wedding and this was before he became as popular of an actor as he now is. It had been at least 5 years since I had seen him at that time. That was my third time flying to California and probably my third time flying period but the whole weeks experience was great (the comedy show, the bachelor party and the wedding). We had a great time.

  3. My most memorable travel moment was treking through the Sierra Nevadas for my first backpacking trip. Although I somewhat reluctantly followed, the beauty and serenity of the forests and the marvel of not seeing another human for days made me fall in love with adventure travel. Now I've taken it a step further and would love to one day trek through Africa, but for now I have to vicariously experience it through Expedition Africa. I want to be a epidemologist with a speciality in tropical diseases, and I could only dream of one day being able to "hunt" viruses in Africa, and experience some of the same adventures that the explorers in Expedition Africa have gone through.
