Those that sent me an email can expect to receive your DVDs in the next two - three weeks. But here’s a really cool new promotion, courtesy of our new friends at Pepsi of all people. Did you know they have this thing called Pepsi points. To get points you purchase a bottle of Pepsi, save the cap and then log onto www.Pepsistuff.com to redeem your points. You get enough points you can get all sorts of cool things. As much Pepsi as I drink, I should have a thousand points now. But you don’t have to get your points the hard way. No, no, no… We have 400 points to give away! To get a sense of how many points this is - 5 points will get you an .Mp3 download from Amazon, 90 points gets you a DVD, 60 points gets you CD, 12 points you can download TV Shows from Amazon’s Unbox and 50 points and up will get you some Pepsi gear. So now imagine you had 400 points!

As you may have noticed, I sort of fixed the top Posters thing that was so popular on the old EM system. This contest will be simple. It will run from March 17th until the end of the month March 31. The top post during this period will get 250 points. The 2nd and 3rd place winner will get 50 points each. One other person in the top ten will receive the last 50 points. bluestate

Making its premiere at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival, Blue State stars Breckin Meyer as the impassioned liberal, John Logue, who finds himself in a state of the blues after watching Bush’s victorious re-election in 2004 and must now face up to a promise he made on the eve of election… to pick up and move to Canada. After interviewing a number of potential co-travelers for his road trip, he meets Chloe Hamon (Academy Award winner Anna Paquin) who seems like the perfect travel companion: quirky, agreeable and attractive. But after a stop along the way at the home of John’s radical parents, shocking revelations about Chloe’s secret past and a series of misguided events at the “Marry-a-Canadian” headquarters, John and Chloe develop an intimate bond as they are forced to question the true meaning of their convictions, identities and values. The hilarious and poignant comedy Blue State debuts on DVD February 12th from MGM Home Entertainment.  To win, just post a comment on the site between February 19 - March 3.  On March 3, send your UserID, a link to your Post, and full mailing address to contests@eclipsemagazine.com.

BlindDatingBoxArt

We have another DVD Giveaway. This one is for Blind Dating. It hit the shelves last week.  The movie looks pretty cute and I like Eddie Kaye Thomas.

Proving that love is blind, Blind Dating debuts on DVD February 5, 2008 from Fox Home Entertainment. Starring Hollywood’s new “it” guy, Chris Pine (Star Trek – 2008, Smokin’ Aces), the funny and warm story about overcoming cultural and physical boundaries also stars Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie), multiple Golden Globe® and Emmy® winner Jane Seymour* (“Dancing With The Stars,” Wedding Crashers), Sendhil Ramamurthy (TV’s “Heroes”), Stephen Tobolowsky (Failure to Launch), and Anjali Jay in her feature film debut. A romantic comedy perfect for Valentine’s Day viewing, the Blind Dating DVD includes laugh-out loud bonus materials including bloopers, deleted scenes and a behind-the-scenes featurette.

Danny (Pine) is smart, handsome, popular, and blind…and not just physically: He also can’t see how wild women are for him! Even his sexy therapist (Seymour) can’t keep her clothes on around Danny! After a series of painful “blind dates” set up by his brother (Thomas), Danny falls for a young Indian woman named Leeza (Jay), and finally everything seems picture perfect. But when cultures clash and Leeza reveals that she’s been promised to someone else, Danny must prove to her that love is more than meets the eye. Bonus materials include: Deleted Footage, Bloopers, Behind-The-Scenes Featurette, and Cast Interviews.  To win, just post a comment on the site between February 19 - March 3.  On March 3, send your UserID, a link to your Post, and full mailing address to contests@eclipsemagazine.com.

Eastern Promises

Universal Home Video Has Given Us a ton cool DVDs to giveaway, including the amazing Eastern Promises, which is one of the best films of the year. We also have copies of the surprisingly funny Balls of Fury, and Bring It On Again. We will give away all THREE DVDs to FIVE lucky winners. To win, post a comment about one of these films or the stars. Then on January 14th, send an email to contests@eclipsemagazine.com with your User ID, Full Name, Full Address, and state which DVD Set you are interested in. We have Five Copies of each. I loved Eastern Promises because it gives me a chance to yell, “Holly Cowl, look at those twiggs and Berries!” I would give this film a solid A.

Eastern Promises DVD

David Cronenberg’s signature obsessions flower in Eastern Promises, a stunning look at violence, responsibility, and skin. Near Christmastime in London, a baby is born to a teenage junkie–an event that leads a midwife (Naomi Watts) into the world of the Russian mob. Central to this world is an ambitious enforcer (Viggo Mortensen) who’s lately buddied up with the reckless son (Vincent Cassel) of a mob boss (Armin Mueller-Stahl, doing his benign-sinister thing). Screenwriter Steve Knight also wrote Dirty Pretty Things, and in some ways this is a companion piece to that film, though utterly different in style. The plot is classical to the point of being familiar, but Cronenberg doesn’t allow anything to become sentimental; he and his peerless cinematographer Peter Suschitzky take a cool, controlled approach to this story. Because of that, when the movie erupts in its (relatively brief) violence, it’s genuinely shocking. Cronenberg really puts the viewer through it, as though to shame the easy purveyors of pulp violence–nobody will cheer when the blood runs in this film. Still, Eastern Promises has a furtive humor, nicely conveyed in Viggo Mortensen’s highly original performance. Covered in tattoos, his body a scroll depicting his personal history of violence, Mortensen conveys a subtle blend of resolve and lost-ness. He’s a true, haunting mystery man. KingdomDVD

Our new friends at Universal Home Video have given us a quartet of great DVDs to give away starting with The Kingdom.  The DVD hit the street on December 23, 2007.  To win this DVD, simply post a comment about your favorite Jamie Foxx movie.  The contest will run from December 23 - January 8th.  On January 8th send an email with your User ID, Full Name and Address to with the name of the DVD Contest you are entering (We’re running four).

Set in Saudi Arabia, The Kingdom is a political action thriller with good acting and wonderful visuals. Its so-so script, though, at times meanders aimlessly until a good explosion jolts the viewer’s attention back to the screen. Jamie Foxx stars as FBI special agent Ronald Fleury, who leads an elite team into Saudi Arabia to find the terrorists who attacked American employees working in the Middle East. He has been given the unlikely deadline of five days to infiltrate the compound, with just his wit and his crew, which includes forensics expert Janet Mayes (Jennifer Garner), explosives guru Grant Sykes (Chris Cooper), and intelligence analyst Adam Leavitt (Jason Bateman). It’s unclear how helpful smarmy U.S. diplomat Damon Schmidt (Jeremy Piven) will be, but Fleury knows enough to surmise that the media-hungry Schmidt might not be completely trustworthy. Foxx and Garner have wonderful screen presence, but it’s Bateman and Piven who get the best lines. Director Peter Berg peppers The Kingdom with actors he has worked with in the past. Berg, who guest-starred on Alias opposite Garner, casts Tim McGraw in a small role here. (The country singer also had a co-starring role in Berg’s 2004 film Friday Night Lights.) And Kyle Chandler and Minka Kelly–two of Berg’s lead actors from the Friday Night Lights television series, , make appearances in The Kingdom. The action sequences he creates are impressive and generate a sense of panic that The Kingdom producer Michael Mann (Miami Vice) undoubtedly applauds. While a tauter script would’ve rounded out the action nicely, the action in many cases does speak for itself.

Wow, Fox has been taking it on the chin from Film Critics lately because this summer they started playing games with screening access and while they have been ticking me off with their new policy - it’s why I refused to see or review The Simpson’s Movie, I can’t fault the Home Video division, so with that said, we have five copies of the recently released Live Free or Die Hard Unrated, 2 Disc Special Edition DVD (what a mouthful) to giveaway! Check out our reviews of the movie here. To win, let us know what your favorite Bruce Willis film is, or your fondest memory of the Die Hard Trilogy. We’ll run this contest until December 12, 2007. On that date shoot us an email with your Full Name, Address, and User ID. Be sure to check out the amazing Blu-Ray version of LFDH, it includes an unlocked digital copy of the movie that you can play on your portable devices. And yes, I’m aware that I probably misspelled Kayay!

Hey, hey, we have another fantastic contest for you. Because we’ve been such good whores for all things BSG, the folks at Universal Home Video have given us five copies to give away. The DVD hits the street on Dec. 4 and will be a two disk extravaganza. This contest will run for the next two weeks. On Wednesday, Dec 12 shoot me an email with your full mailing address and User ID. That’s it. Post a comment about BSG, or the SCI-Fi Network for a chance to win, it’s that simple.

In the meantime check out some of these exclusive SFX shots! These shots are not your typical approved artwork, this comes directly from the pipeline of production at Universal Studios. Our source had a chance to meet with the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA editors, and they pulled this actual step-by-step visual effects sequence from the show. Warning, these are nice huge pictures. (more…)
