BBC Culture Compiles The 100 Greatest American Films!

Rows of empty red cinema seats

BBC Culture surveyed sixty-two critics from around the world – from newspapers, magazines, bloggers, broadcasters and authors – and asked them to pick their top ten American movies (made in America, funded in some way by an American source).

Using a basic weighted system – 10 points for #1 votes to 1 point for #10 votes – the results were tabulated and a link to the resulting list was posted by BBC Culture.

Some of the placements are, no doubt, arguable (Jaws ahead of Star Wars? Both ahead of Raiders of the Lost Ark? Rio Bravo ahead of Dr. Strangelove? Where’s Evil Dead 2?) – but that’s part of the fun of finding and reading these lists.  So, if you love movies, follow the jump to the link to BBC Culture’s The 100 Greatest American Films.

And the debate goes on…
