Today marks the release date of the latest album from recording artist, Ryan Calhoun entitled “The Heaven Switch”. The Heaven Switch is an incredible pop/rock album and continues the talented work from Ryan Calhoun’s previous album “Everything That I am Not” More details from the press release and my review after the jump:
INTRODUCING POP-ROCK BAND THE HEAVEN SWITCH. DEBUT SELF-TITLED ALBUM OUT JANUARY 24, 2012!
Reconciling his strengths as a solo artist, Ryan Calhoun’s newest project, The Heaven Switch, plays as the next chapter of the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter’s career. Those already familiar with Calhoun’s last album, “Everything That I’m Not” will not be disappointed with the next step in his musical journey.
The Heaven Switch promises to build on the fan base Calhoun has already cultivated over the last few years via an impressive array of television and film placements. With no less than five songs attaining Top 10 placement on the iTunes singer-songwriter chart (including his #1 breakout single, “Who We Are”) and an album, Everything That I’m Not, reaching #3, a couple of million listens on Myspace and 30,000 singles sold, Calhoun’s success is testament to the simple power of a great song and a great voice.
Working with producers Bill Lefler (Plain White T’s; Gym Class Heroes; Tyrone Wells), Mike Green (Beyoncé; Paramore; Boys Like Girls), and Dallas Kruse to achieve a fuller sound, The Heaven Switch boils down Calhoun’s innate love of crossover, guitar-oriented bands from his late-1990s youth into a polished array of sweet heartstring ballads and sing-along anthems.Suffering through the end of a long-term relationship and forced to sell most of his music equipment to survive, Calhoun spent a great deal of the past year engrossed in the meaning of human relationships. The songs of The Heaven Switch grew directly out of these experiences.
With The Heaven Switch LP set for release on January 24th, 2012, and a tour currently being planned for the Spring, Calhoun is poised to reengage his loyal fans while also speaking to a whole new set of curious ears who simply want to hear great songs.
The Heaven Switch is an album that is full of energy and catches the listeners’ attention immediately with “Raise A Flag”. This song is a perfect love/pop tune to start the album with. The album continues with many great upbeat songs such as Stolen Car, Trainwreck, Fault Lines, and Dam This Flood. There’s only one ballad off of The Heaven Switch and that is “Someday” which was written perfectly both lyrically and musically. There is not one song I dislike; each song is capable of standing on its own and is worth listening to from beginning to end. If you’re into relationship type songs and enjoy the pop/rock genre, The Heaven Switch is a perfect choice and does not disappoint. With that said, my grade for the debut album of The Heaven Switch is A+ and was a real pleasure to expose my ears to.
The Heaven Switch is now available on the CSF Music Group label and can be purchased/downloaded on Itunes and Amazon
