TELEVISION RECAP: Beverly Hills 90210, Season 2, Episode 1 Recap

90210-Cast

Last year I was skeptical of The CW’s remake of Beverly Hills 90210, but I decided to give it the three-episode rule anyway.  It started off rough but by the fifth episode it started to gel. I lost all interest in CW programming towards the end of the season due to all the month long commercial breaks. They broke the flow of all of their programs and other than Supernatural and Smallville last year, nothing they air is must see television so once the habit is broken, it’s hard for me to continue to care.  I decided to give last night’s season premiere a try and boy was it painful.

Recap – Season 2, Episode 1, Airdate 9.08.09

Cast List

The episode starts with everyone getting out of Summer School. Turns out Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) spent the summer obsessing over going from one guy to the next. Her summer conquest turns out to be a married man, she immediately jumps to a new guy, Teddy Montgomery (Trevor Donovan who looks like he’s 30 years old) the son of a famous actor and Adrianna ‘s former camp boyfriend. Dixon (Tristan Wilds) discovers that Ethan sent Silver (Jessica Stroup) a Text message saying that he’s going to stay in Montana, Teddy picks up Silver’s phone and tells Dixon who instantly breaks up with her. Annie (Shenae Grimes) has spent her summer being worried about the mysterious John Doe she hit earlier in the year who eventually dies. She tries to confide in Dixon about it but he blows up at her accusing her of not being able to apologize about sleeping with Liam.  Silver vows to get Dixon back. She gets drunk and has sex with some Senior. Navid (Michael Steger) is becoming upset that Adrianna won’t sleep with him because she’s trying to become a normal girl. The episode ends with Naomi getting a video of Annie having sex with some drunken Senior and her and her mean girls Silver and Adrianna walking down the hallway.  I just looked stupid.

Episode Review

It’s clear the Producers thought last year’s 90210 was too “adult,” and they’ve watched Mean Girls a million times over the summer because it was painful to watch.   The acting was getting better as the show progressed, but that progression has been completely lost this year. It’s horrible.  When I was in high school I don’t remember constantly giggling, backstabbing each other for the sake of backstabbing, and being as much of a skank as possible.  These are supposed to be High-School Jrs but the producers have them acting like they are in elementary school.

Episode Grade – F
