The Collector feels a bit like a cheep knock off of the SAW franchise complete with booby traps, decapitations, body parts being severed and a good amount of blood. It starts off strong, but fades midway through. It has one solid idea that doesn’t contain any nuance or depth.

Michelle names the Best Movies of 2013
As many of you long time readers know, I’m not a big fan of doing lists or year end reviews, but somehow I always find myself doing one. I usually complain about what a bad year for movies we just had, but 2013 was mostly a solid. There wasn’t much that blew my mind, but […]
Saving Mr. Banks Brilliance falters under the weight of Marry Poppins
After attending Disney’s excellent D23 presentation of upcoming films, Saving Mr. Banks quickly became one of the few films that I really looked forward to seeing. It has all the elements that I love in movies – heart, comedy, colorful cinematography and it is about the creative process. That twenty-minute preview and surprise ending with […]
Hunger Games: Catching Fire fails to Sizzle. Michelle’s Review!
Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Director Francis Lawrence, heard my plea of no shaky cam in the sequel. I get on my knees and scream to the heavens, “For the love of god!” The first film literally made me sick on three separate occasions and I wasn’t able to make it through until it hit glorious […]
Thor: The Dark World, Michelle’s Review!
It is nice watching a Superhero franchise where I don’t know much about the hero. Yeah I’m an old school Marvel Fan Girl – can’t stand the Marvel Now stuff, but I never got into Thor. The only thing I know about this character is the mythology they have built in the films. I thought […]
Gravity doesn’t live up to the Hype! Michelle’s Review
The internet just exploded with excitement when the trailer for Sandra Bullock, and George Clooney‘s latest flick – Gravity hit. People were spooging themselves, using phrases like “life altering,” “stunning,” “changes the very fabric of cinema,” etc. This was just for the trailer. After a week of hype, I watched the trailer thinking to myself […]
The World’s End a little disjointed but Works. Michelle’s Review
Ok, who doesn’t love the film team of Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost? Their past team ups have lead to sublime comedy classics like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Their latest The World’s End, while not as funny as their previous efforts, this one is probably their most confident and well-conceived […]
Jobs a Brilliant Biography marred by Fanboy Marketing
When I walked out of the critic screening for Jobs (no it is not a movie about getting a job in this difficult economy) I was thinking that as a purely biographical film exercise and movie, this is probably one of the best ones of the year. Ashton Kutcher gives the performance of his career; […]
Wolverine Review!
Graphic novels used to be the exclusive property of the geeks and nerds among us – they most definitely weren’t for mainstream consumption. The recent explosion of massively popular movies based on Marvel characters has done much to drag the genre well into the mainstream and with The Wolverine, we have the latest installment of […]
The Wolverine fails in almost every area. Michelle’s Review
What is it about Wolverine? He is a fantastic character in very small doses but take him out of team situations and try and expand on his back-story everything sort of falls apart. Wolverine is a great character because he is a soldier, a killing machine, someone with high standards, a strong moral code and […]
Pacific Rim – Cold, calculating and technical. Michelle’s Review
When a prologue is done well, it can add a lot of texture and context to the story you are about to see or read. While I strongly dislike the Lord of the Rings films, the beginning five-minute prologue sequence does an amazing job of setting up and getting us excited about the world we’re […]
