Kubo and the Two Strings Is Laika’s Best Film Yet!

Kubo and the Two Strings is a genuinely amazing film. It’s a story of family on both an intimate and mythic level. It’s also absolutely gorgeous to look at.

If not for the Pixar release Zootopia, it would be almost certainly a lock for this year’s best animated film Oscar®.

Glorious Trailer: Kubo and The Two Strings!


There’s something about Laika. They make animated films (Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls) that are for the whole family, yet never feel like they’re either talking down to children or talking over their heads – while providing plenty of substance for adult viewers.

Kubo and The Two Strings looks like it could be another instant classic with its vaguely origami-like animation and epic quest. Kubo, guided by the magically created Monkey, seeking out his father’s armor to save his village and solve the mystery of his missing father.

Sadly, while outdoing the first two in terms of technical wizardry, The Boxtrolls assembles a host of familiar elements with only one lead character and two minor ones really ever coming to life.
