Syfy announced today that its hit supernatural series Haven has been picked up for a double-sized fifth season – twenty six episodes! This can be attributed to the show’s continued growth (averaging 2.3 million viewers on Friday nights – and running against new shows from all the big networks!) and the show’s fans being extremely media savvy (Season 4 was Haven’s best season to date in social mentions and Twitter activity). Season 5.0 will premiere this fall, with Season 5.5 debuting in 2015.
Over the course of Haven’s run on Syfy, series creators Sam Ernst and Jim Dunn have repeatedly said in interviews that they had a complete story planned for Haven – a ‘seven-season plan.’ With today’s news that Season 5 of Haven will be 26 episodes, I have to wonder if Ernst & Dunn’s plan was based on 13-episode seasons – making Season 5, in effect, years five and six of their overall plan. Or, maybe, because the series has proven so durable and so good, if perhaps Syfy might be trying to stretch things out a bit. Ernst and Dunn are not listed as executive producers on the show in the press release (read it after the jump), so that gives me pause…

Over its first three seasons, Syfy’s Haven (Fridays, 10/9C) has quietly built itself up as a consistent, weird, high-quality supernatural series – the network’s best series after the soon-to-end Warehouse 13. After a cliffhanger ending that left the town of Haven suffering from a deadly meteor shower and two of its three lead characters disappearing into god only knows where, the series returns with a time-shift, a few answers, new questions and a couple of intriguing new characters.

The fourth season of Syfy’s supernatural series Haven (Fridays, 10/9C) returns this week – and how perfect is it that it returns on Friday the 13th – picking up six months after last season’s meteor shower cliffhanger. Haven’s Nathan Wournos, Lucas Bryant, spoke with a group of journalists/bloggers late last week to bring us up to speed on where Nathan is at the beginning of season four – and it’s not a pretty picture.

Lahana will play Jennifer Mason, a young woman who begins to hear voices – and since this is Haven…
Camargo will play Duke Crocker’s charming, drive and slightly devious half-brother (there’s likely a reason Duke has never mentioned him before…). For more details, check out of the Syfy press release after the jump.

With Syfy’s Haven (Fridays, 10/9C), beginning its third season on Friday, having quietly become one of the best genre series on television, it only made sense to spend an hour listening to the show’s stars – Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant and Eric Balfour talk about the upcoming series – and just generally have a great time (seriously, I can’t think of another show whose cast has this much fun talking to bloggers/journalists). Moments of sanity – and additional information – are also supplied by Lloyd Segan
And why not – Haven’s audience has grown from season-to-season and the new season’s first two episodes are terrific!
