SyFy’s Auction: Finding your own ‘Hollywood Treasure’

SyFy’s popular new program Hollywood Treasure is a different type of reality-based show.  It has a premise and format that hooks the viewer through the presentation of interesting Hollywood memorabilia, while tapping into the curiosity factor of wanting to know not only how much they are worth but what others are ultimately willing to pay for them.  The show has an addictive, quick-paced formula basically consisting of three ‘hooks’ and each week presents two half-hour episodes.  There are even special auctions held to benefit charity.  And the best part is that SyFy also makes it possible for viewers to take part in auctions.  This includes unique items from fan favorites Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, Warehouse 13, as well as trip packages for Comic Con with VIP access, and an all-expense paid weekend with the Ghost Hunters.  You can also get your hands on scripts signed by the cast of Stargate Universe or Warehouse 13. Or how about the purple dress worn by Alessandra Torresani on Caprica?  These and many other items are now up for grabs to the highest bidder.

Hollywood Treasure is a weekly reality series that delves into the intricate world of showbiz and pop culture memorabilia collecting, including science fiction and fantasy props and costumes.  Each episode follows a specific format as it gives us a peak into that world going through each of these sections.

(1) The TREASURES:  Joe Maddalena, owner of Profiles in History, and his team are on a race against time to find the most unique and iconic items of Hollywood.  It always seems like each auction is only ten days away and the clock is ticking. But before they can sell anything, they must go through various procedures to authenticate the items.

(2) The HUNT: Joe does not hesitate to travel to all parts of the country, and sometimes overseas, when a tip arrives about an extraordinary item.  He must examine the item in person and often use his affable skills to convince the owner to part with it.

(3) The AUCTION: We watch as approximately 1,500 bidders take part, many at the auction house, others on the phone, and the bulk of them online.  That’s when some of those final numbers can make our jaws drop.

PERKS: Meeting with stars and hearing their behind-the-scenes stories, such as Dawn Wells from Gilligan’s Island, Christopher Judge from Stargate SG1, Harvey Stephens, the child actor who played Damien in The Omen, and even comic book icon Stan Lee.

CHARITY: Recently, Hollywood Treasure just completed a hugely successful special auction of 150 lots of Hollywood memorabilia. Much of the proceeds of this auction will benefit Variety-The Children’s Charity of Southern California, the Michael J. Fox Foundation Team Fox and KaBOOM! The drama of “What will it sell for?” and “Who won what?” of many of these items will play out in upcoming episodes of Hollywood Treasure.
