RE: Generation music documentary coming to theatres for one night only

On February 16th, 2012, a special music documentary entitled “RE: Generation” will be screening in select theatres and will focus on five DJ’s/producers collaborating with artists of different genres. Additional details from the press release after the jump:

A catalyst for musical innovation, RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT is a new documentary, produced in association with the GRAMMYs® and presented by Hyundai Veloster, that examines music’s past, present and future, while yielding five revolutionary collaborations in the process.  It can be seen in over 170 theatres across the country for a one-night engagement on Thursday, February 16, with encore screenings in select venues to occur Thursday, February 23.   In addition, the RE:GENERATION soundtrack album featuring the songs created by the remarkable DJ/producers featured in the film—Mark Ronson, DJ Premier, The Crystal Method, Pretty Lights and Skrillex—along with brand new remixes by Zedd, Apathy, Bonobo and Static Revenger is now available as a free download at www.regenerationmusicproject.com/music

Directed by award-winning documentarian Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story, My Kid Could Paint That), RE:GENERATION follows these five DJs/producers as they re-imagine music collaborating with influential artists from rock, R&B, classical, country and jazz genres including:  NAS, Members of The Doors, Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Martha Reeves, LeAnn Rimes, Dr. Ralph Stanley, The Berklee Symphony Orchestra, Zigaboo Modeliste, The Funk Brothers, Trobone Shorty and Members of The Dap Kings.  They use their talent and technology to mix musical styles and generations for the creation of five original tracks that are nothing short of magical.

All the songs created in the film have been made available via YouTube, garnering attention from the likes of Entertainment Weekly, USA Today and RollingStone.com.  Now, they can be obtained digitally as a free download along with special remixes: “Breakn’ A Sweat,” created by five-time Grammy nominee (including “Best New Artist”) Skrillex and Members of the Doors, has been remixed by Zedd;  Ninja Tune artist Bonobo lends his talents to Mark Ronson’s “A La Modeliste”; Apathy, who has collaborated with DJ Premier in the past for “Stop What Ya Doin,” remixes “Regeneration”; The Crystal Method’s “I’m Not Leaving” featuring Martha Reeves and The Funk Brothers gets a new treatment from Motor City native Static Revenger; and Pretty Lights remixes his own “Wayfaring Stranger” with an updated twist highlighting LeAnn Rimes’ original vocal.

About the RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT:

The RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT examines the history of different music through the eyes of five of the most influential electronic producer/DJ’s in music today.  For the project, Mark Ronson, DJ Premier, The Crystal Method, Pretty Lights and Skrillex each take a specific musical style and explore it by writing and recording a brand new track with a grouping of influential collaborators in that genre. The entire experience comes to life in the RE:GENERATION feature documentary directed by award-winning documentarian Amir Bar-Lev (“MY KID COULD PAINT THAT,” “THE TILLMAN STORY”).

In the film, current five-time GRAMMY^®-nominated artist Skrillex heads into a Los Angeles studio with members of the iconic rock band The Doors to collaborate on a new song, “Breakn’ A Sweat.” Meanwhile, The Crystal Method touched down in Detroit to work with Martha Reeves of The Vandellas and The Funk Brothers on the R&B number “I’m Not Leaving.” Mark Ronson created a southern brew of New Orleans jazz in “A La Modeliste” that boasts a veritable all-star cast of Erykah Badu, Trombone Shorty, Mos Def, Zigaboo Modeliste and Members of The Dap Kings. DJ Premier tapped NAS and Boston’s very own Berklee Symphony Orchestra for his “Regeneration,” and the documentary culminates in Nashville on the dusty intergalactic twang of Pretty Lights‘ “Wayfaring Stranger” featuring vocals from LeAnn Rimes and Dr. Ralph Stanley.
