Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist, United States of Tara) is an 18-year old on the autism spectrum. He’s decided it’s time to find go on a date, find a girlfriend and fall in love.
As a result, his mother, Elsa (Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hateful Eight, Anomalisa) finds herself on her own life-changing path – and the family (father Doug and sister Casey) are going to have to make some adjustments.

Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as Sam’s mother, Elsa, who is on her own journey of self-discovery as her son realizes more independence. Michael Rapaport plays his father, Doug, who longs to build a closer relationship with Sam. Brigette Lundy-Paine plays Sam’s scrappy sister, Casey, and Amy Okuda plays his therapist, Julia.
Premiering with eight episodes on August 11, Atypical was created and written by Robia Rashid (How I Met Your Mother).
