A Nickelback backdrop adorned the stage of the House Of Blues on Sunset Boulevard yesterday afternoon, November 5. Fans waited with excitement for their favorite band. The anticipation was undeniable. Then the music started. And the magic began.

For the 1,500 lucky fans, including myself, who came to this intimate venue, it wasn’t just another rock concert. Not only was this the first time Nickelback brought a performance to the celebrated strip venue, but all proceeds went to a music/arts program for underserved youth. And it celebrated the announcement of their long awaited new album, NO FIXED ADDRESS, hitting stores on November 17!

NICKELBACK is a global multi-platinum rock band that hails from Alberta, Canada.  The band is composed of lead vocals/guitarist Chad Kroeger, guitarist/backing vocals Ryan Peake, bass guitarist Mike Kroeger, and drummer/backing vocals Daniel Adair.

Formed in 1995, they have sold more than 50 million units worldwide.   They are the eleventh best-selling music act and second best-selling foreign act in the U.S. of the 21st century, behind only The Beatles.  They have received nine Grammy Award nominations, three American Music Awards, a World Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, 12 JUNO Awards, and have been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.  Their smash  “How You Remind Me” was named Billboard’s “Top Rock Song of the Decade” and “Fourth Song of the Decade” and were crowned Billboard’s “Top Rock Group of the Decade.”

The exciting show at the House Of Blues on November 5 rang in their new songs “Edge Of A Revolution” and “What Are You Waiting For” for their upcoming album NO FIXED ADDRESS along with fan favorites “How You Remind Me”, “Photograph,” “Far Away”, and “Someday.”

As I danced and sang along with the music of Nickelback, I was struck how connected the band was to its fans.  Periodically between songs in this two hour show, lead singer Chad Kroeger and Ryan Peake would chat with the audience.  A round of drinks was even offered to everybody during the show and Chad dedicated a song “Far Away” to the ladies. At the close of the show, handpicks were thrown to the screaming fans like Mardis Gras in the middle of Los Angeles. No wonder one of their biggest fans, who traveled all the way from Australia, never misses a show.  And no, it’s not because of the free drinks, although I’m sure that was a perk.  As one Nickelback fan told me, “Their music is about bringing happiness to the world.”  Nickelback genuinely loves their fans and their fans love them back.

Love didn’t just stop at the fans.  All proceeds of sale tickets from the show was donated to the International House of Blues Foundation Action for the Arts grants programs.  These programs target underserved communities and connect youth to live music and the arts.
