The LEGO Movie is a prime example of why movie theater owners are right to complain about trailers. I felt like I saw the movie and was ready to love it before I even walked in the door. Imagine my disappointment when it ended up being different than the advertising campaign.

The Monuments Men–Not Quite Monumental!
George Clooney’s The Monuments Men is a hymn to culture that is never quite pitch perfect. The story of a special group tasked with recovering and returning artworks stolen by the Nazis in World War II, the film lurches between locations and characters for much of its first half before pulling together.
That Awkward Moment Is A Series of Awkward Moments!
The premise of That Awkward Moment is that that moment when a relationship could go either way is can usually be pinpointed. As Zac Efron’s character Jason puts it, when a girl “begins a conversation with ‘So…’ Writer/director Tom Gormican takes this idea of awkward moments and tries to makes create a hybrid romantic dramedy/buddy […]
Michelle’s Movie Backlog – The Collector Review
The Collector feels a bit like a cheep knock off of the SAW franchise complete with booby traps, decapitations, body parts being severed and a good amount of blood. It starts off strong, but fades midway through. It has one solid idea that doesn’t contain any nuance or depth.
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Is a Solid Origin Story!
Tom Clancy never really got deeply into the story of how Jack Ryan came to be a hero, but Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit does a lovely job of filling in that background and grounding the character in today’s world. There’s not much we haven’t seen before, but Kenneth Branagh gives it some serious zip and […]
It’s Not Nuts to Love The Nut Job!
Maybe it’s because I went into The Nut Job with high hopes and low expectations, but for me, the squirrely 3D animated comedy did a pretty good job of expanding Peter Lepeniotis’ hilarious short, Surly Squirrel into a feature-length film.
Like Joaquin Phoenix You Will Love her!
Spike Jonez does not make run of the mill movies – he likes to explore new territories, or take old ones into new dimensions. her is no exception, taking the romantic drama and the exploration of artificial intelligence and bringing them together to form something new.
Michelle Names the Worst Films of 2013
Michelle names the Best Movies of 2013
As many of you long time readers know, I’m not a big fan of doing lists or year end reviews, but somehow I always find myself doing one. I usually complain about what a bad year for movies we just had, but 2013 was mostly a solid. There wasn’t much that blew my mind, but […]
The Wolf of Wall Street – It’s All Fun &Games ‘til You Go to Jail!
Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street is a gloriously debauched rigs-to-riches-to-jail tale that soars for its first two-and-a-half hours – then changes tone and runs out of steam. It deserves its hard R-rating.
Inside Llewyn Davis – The Coen’s Stumble but don’t Fall. Michelle’s Review
Coen Brother films are almost always unique, well made and sometimes make you think. When all the ingredients that shape up their worldview work you get brilliance like Raising Arizona or Fargo. When it fails you get a strange head scratcher like O Brother, Where Art Thou, or The Lady Killers. One thing their films […]
