Father’s day is coming this Sunday, June 21. Here are some great Blu-rays to get your Technically hipster Blu-ray dad. Of course, I’d recommend getting him a Blu-ray player first – but that’s in tomorrow’s Tech Gifts for dad story. Today let’s get him some Blu-rays to start his collection with. No Die Hard, Godfather or ID4 Blu-rays on this list because, frankly, those were horrible, horrible, transfers. Stay away from them. Since this is a guide for fathers, I’m going to stay away from the great Blu-ray titles like The Dark Knight, Speed Racer, etc. This is part 1 of a two part list.

The Day the Earth Stood Still Blu-ray Disk is a beautiful package that include an incredibly sharp transfer and tons of great extras. Now you have two choices you can either get the 3 Disc Special Edition of the Keanu version which includes the original, or just get him the Original. The Keanu version is a bore, but it’s a great Blu-ray package that gives you both versions but you won’t get all the extras from the Original. The Dirty Harry Ultimate Collector’s Edition
Really, this list could have easily turned into a Clint love fest and a large collection of his famous characters are now on Blu-ray. Including Dirty Harry in this set that includes every DH movie.
