Alec Baldwin To Host TCM Documentary Spotlight!

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will be presenting a month-long spotlight on documentaries hosted by Alec Baldwin.

To Tell The Truth will examine the history non-fiction films over the month of November – featuring more than 50 films including: Hoop Dreams, Woodstock, God’s Country and more.

TCM veteran/Oscar®-nominee Alec Baldwin will host the programming events that will feature several TCM premieres including two episodes of the ongoing series To Tell The Truth: A History of Documentary Film (2014).

The special will premiere on November 2nd (8/7C) and will air every Monday and Wednesday during the month. For more, read on.

TCM To Air Month-Long Programming Spotlight on Documentaries Hosted By Alec Baldwin

To Tell The Truth Premieres Nov. 2 and Airs Every Monday & Wednesday Throughout the Month

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will look at the influential history of non-fiction films in To Tell The Truth, a month-long programming special featuring more than 50 films exploring the history of this effective and important art form. Hosted by Oscar® nominee and TCM veteran Alec Baldwin, the special will feature several TCM premieres including two episodes of the ongoing series To Tell The Truth: A History of Documentary Film (2014). The programming special premieres Nov. 2 at 8 pm ET and will air every Monday and Wednesday during the month.

Documentaries have been an important part of moviemaking since the silent era and continue today as one of the most powerful ways of spreading information and viewpoints. To Tell The Truth will feature 53 important documentaries throughout the decades including:

  • Hoop Dreams  (1994) – Steve James’ look at two inner-city youths, their love of basketball and their dreams of NBA glory
  • Woodstock (1970) – Michael Wadleigh’s landmark documentation of the turblant 1969 Woodstock Music & Art Festival
  • Native Land (1942) – Leo Hurwitz’s look at labor organizing during the Great Depression
  • God’s Country (1985) – Louis Malle’s examination of two different eras in the life of a farming community in Minnesota
  • Best Boy (1979) – Ira Wohl’s compassionate look at a mentally handicapped man who must learn to care for himself
  • Bombay Beach (2011) – Alma Har’el’s dreamlike reflection on the American Dream as expressed by life on the edge of Califorina’s Salton Sea
