The Vampire Diaries is an even more depressing version of Dawson’s Creek, the only difference between the two shows is we have Vampires more boring and depressed than the ones found in Twilight. Now onto the Re-cap.

The Night of the Comet, S1, Ep 2, Airdate 9.17.09 – Re-cap

Show opens with a couple of teeny boppers making out in the woods. When are movie teenagers going to learn this type of behavior is only going to get you dead? Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is still obsessing over Vicky (Kayla Ewell) and confronts Tyler (Michael Trevino) over the attack. Jenna (Sara Canning) has a parent/teacher conference with creepy history teacher who makes a weird pass at her then tells her that she’s being a bad parent. Stefan (Paul Wesley) shows up at the hospital to glamour Vickie into not remembering a Vampire attacked her. Matt sees Stefan leave his sister’s room and chases him.

Elena (Nina Dobrev) has her first encounter with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) at Stefan’s house. Damon talks about Stefan’s ex-girlfriend and how their relationship is doomed. Vicki leaves the hospital to score some drugs from Jeremy. Elena and Stefan watch the comet together. Vickie doesn’t know where she recognizes Damon from who tells her it’s unfortunate and then attacks her in the bathroom. Jeremy tells everyone who’ll listen that he slept with Vicky. Damon stalks Caroline (Candice Accola).  Damon glamours Vicky into believing that Stefan is a Vampire and attacked her, forcing Stefan to choose from feeding on Vicky to increase his powers or letting her tell everyone Stefan is a vampire. Stefan calls Damon’s bluff, so he makes her forget again.

Episode Review

vampirediaries3

I do not know how much longer I’ll be able to do these re-caps, The Vampire Diaries is a well made, well cast, crushing bore. So far Elena is the least interesting thing about The Vampire Diaries and the entire series is supposed to be about people fighting over her. I was 30 minutes into this episode when I realized I didn’t mention Elena once in the re-cap, that’s how little she has to do with anything going on in this show. It seems like there is going to be some depth to Elena (I like her a lot more than Twilight’s Bella), but so far it’s not coming through. Shouldn’t hundred year old vamps have something better to do than hang around high-schools and write in their diaries? I long for the days of Buffy when Vampires actually did more than mope around high school girls. Buffy Vamps wanted to bring on Apocalypses, had minions and raised heck (well, maybe not Angel).
