One of the best super hero films of 2013, Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World hits Blu-ray/DVD this week and includes a brand new 15 minute Marvel One-Shot with Ben Kinsgley reprising his role as The Mandarin.
That Didn’t Take Long Department: Thor: The Dark World has barely completed its North American debut weekend and we already know where it’s going to premiere on commercial TV – FX Networks. FX has just announced it has acquired the Marvel superhero blockbuster – the latest in a long list of 2013 theatrical hits for which they’ve obtained commercial television premiere rights that includes Gravity, Prisoners and Captain Phillips.

It is nice watching a Superhero franchise where I don’t know much about the hero. Yeah I’m an old school Marvel Fan Girl – can’t stand the Marvel Now stuff, but I never got into Thor. The only thing I know about this character is the mythology they have built in the films. I thought the first Thor was the surprisingly good and the best film out of the first Phase 1 series of movies.
Even though it is darker than Thor’s introductory movie, Thor: The Dark World is fun – largely because Thor – even more than Captain America – is Marvel’s most irony-free character. That and because Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are such perfectly cast brothers.
Remember that exchange in the the first Thor: The Dark World trailer where Thor asks Loki for help? Well, there’s more to that scene than that brief exchange. Follow the jump to check out more of that conversation. Talk about a love/hate relationship!
The first TV spot for Thor: The Dark World ran during the premiere of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It contained some new footage and one particular moment where the God of Thunder gets called on the carpet for never writing, or calling… It’s good stuff and, if you missed it there, you can check it our after the jump.
Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn came to play at Disney’s D23 Expo. The huge crowd in the packed Disney Arena was in pure hysterics over Disney’s upcoming film slate. Horn kicked off the presentation by talking about all of their various divisions and the breath of it is just kind of staggering – Lucasfilms, Marvel, Disney Pictures and if you add in the animation divisions, amazing. What surprised me the most about the over 2 1/2 hour presentation was how much exclusive, never before seen footage was actually presented. There was some real meat on the bone here, I will post footage from the event when I get home and have a somewhat decent internet connection. First out of the gate was Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige.
A United Kingdom trailer for Thor: The Dark World has just been released – along with the spiffy new poster that debuted last week – with a lot of new footage. It shows that while the sequel might be darker than the first film, there is still plenty of humor – Jane Foster meeting Loki and Thor facing what appears to be a stone giant. Check it out after the jump.
