House of Lies [Showtime, Sundays, 10/9C] paints a picture of management consultants that’s so rude, shrewd and, more than occasionally lewd that one suspects that there’s more than a little truth to their depiction.

Showtime canceled United States of Tara – the series about the dysfunctional family with the matriarch who suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder – after seeing its third season ratings plummet. This is a shame because the series was far better than the inexplicably more popular Nurse Jackie. Thus, all though it doesn’t get a proper finale, the show’s third season maintained its high quality and came to a conclusion that had a genuinely hopeful note.

Showtime’s relentlessly peculiar comedy The Big C is now available on DVD and Blu-ray. Centered around the character of Cathy Jamison, it is the story of how a woman diagnosed with terminal cancer [stage four melanoma] only learns how to live once she learns she’s dying.

United States of Tara made quite a splash for Showtime when it premiered. It was [and is] the first television series to be built around a character who suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder [formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder]. While the Diablo Cody-created series is quirky fun in its original weekly format, the storytelling seems even stronger when viewed on DVD – and if you thought the show was different during season one, well, it gets really weird in season two!

Gabourey Sidibe, Academy Award® Best Actress nominee for Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, is joining the cast of Showtime’s upcoming half-hour series The Big C in a recurring role.
The Big C stars multiple-award winner Laura Linney as a repressed wife and mother named Cathy who begins to reclaim her life after she is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Sidibe will play a smart-alecky student in Cathy’s class. Oliver Platt stars as Cathy’s well-meaning but immature husband.
The Big C begins shooting in May with an eye toward a late summer premiere.

One of Showtime’s most twisted programs is The Tudors, a historical soap opera that features even more twists and turns than a season of Dexter. That these twists and turns are, by and large, a matter of historical fact, dos not make them any less surprising [unless, of course, you’re an English History major]. The third season of The Tudors covers the life and times of Henry VIII [Jonathan Rhys Meyers], one of the most capricious and important monarchs in England’s history, from the marriage of his third wife, Jane Seymour [Annabelle Wallis] to the execution of his once favored First Minister, Thomas Cromwell [James Frain] – and the annulment of his marriage to Anne of Cleves [Joss Stone].
