The Hateful Eight Goes Digital March 15th and Blu-ray March 29th

The Hateful Eight Blu-ray Release

One of the more controversial films of 2015, Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight arrives on Digital HD March 15 and Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand March 29 from Anchor Bay. The eighth film, written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, stars Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tim Roth and Walton Goggins. By the description in the press release I can’t tell if this is going to be the 70MM version of the film with the 20 minutes of extra footage or the regular theatrical version.

The Hateful Eight, Not Tarantino’s Best But Still Worth A Trip! Michelle’s Review

hateful-eight-banner-what

Every Quentin Tarantino film comes across as a vanity project, which is both good and bad. I’m not entirely clear why it bothers me more for The Hateful Eight than anything else he’s done. Maybe it’s the weird release strategy of having two separate cuts of the film, a standard Digital Release that will go into as many theaters as the Weinstein’s can get it in and a special 1-week engagement that is designed to showcase the 70 millimeter print. The 70 mm versions of the film clocks in at about 3:16 with a 15-minute intermission which I felt nearly every minute of, while the digital version is about 2:45.

I saw The Hateful Eight a few hours ago and even though we might not have a 70mm house in town, it’s still a great ride on a more or less standard screen with digital projection.

Abbey Road Hosts Tarantino & Morricone For Hateful Eight Soundtrack Launch!

Quentin Tarantino has made no bones about his love for the movie scores of Ennio Morricone and how thrilled he was that the legendary composer had agreed to provide the score for The Hateful Eight.

Tarantino and Morricone met – for the first time (!) – at the equally legendary Abbey Road Studios to mark the launch of the Hateful Eight soundtrack album. To mark the occasion, Morricone conducted the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in a live recording of the music direct to vinyl.

Fans who pre-order the soundtrack album will have a chance to receive one of the hand-stamped, direct to vinyl editions while quantities last. For details, follow the jump.

Ennio Morricone’s Hateful Eight Soundtrack Released Ahead of Premiere!

Hateful 8 Sdtrk

There are some combinations that just make sense – PB&J, BLT, Ren & Stimpy – and, after his going on record as being a huge fan, Quentin Tarantino and Ennio Morricone.

Though Tarantino has waxed eloquent over Morricone’s work on great films like the Man With No Name trilogy, until The Hateful Eight, they had never worked together.

Now they have and the soundtrack album for The Hateful Eight will be released on December 18th – a week ahead of the film’s roadshow, 70mm premiere. Pre-orders are being taken now. Follow the jump for details.

Cold, Cold Trailer: The Hateful Eight!

Hateful Eight - All Eight

As hard as it may be to believe, one of the world’s most celebrated and influential filmmakers has only made eight films. That’s right, Quentin Tarantino has only made eight films – but each is a vivid combination of originality and recontextualizing the movies he loved as he grew up (and, of course, from his time working in a video store – those free staff rentals must have been Heaven!).

His eighth film, The Hateful Eight is an R-rated take on old school westerns – eight very different people are stuck together in a stagecoach stopover trying to survive a blizzard. Check out the first trailer for The Hateful Eight after the jump. It will open is select theaters on Christmas Day and everywhere else on January 8, 2016.
