Oni Press – publishers of quality oddness (Brides Of Hellheim, Letter 44, Invader Zim) – announced today the 2016 release of Lucky Penny and Graveyard Quest; two vastly different young adult books as different as night and day with only one thing in common – they’re tales of down-on-their-luck sad sacks.
Lucky Penny is the story of Penny Brighton – for whom the expression ‘If I didn’t have bad luck I’d have no luck at all’ is a way of life.
Graveyard Quest is about a guy with the worst possible career choice – running the family business, grave digging, in the shadow of his father… while being constantly critiqued by the ghost of his dead dad!
Lucky Penny will be in stores on March 9, 2016; Graveyard Quest will follow on March 23, 2016. Follow the jump for further details.
Rick and Morty are comic to comics. The animated Adult Swim series about loveable, clueless teenager Rick and his sociopathic scientific genius grandfather is being given their own ongoing title by Oni Press.
Zac Gorman (Costume Quest: Invasion of the Candy Snatchers, Magical Game Time) has gotten the plum assignment to write the new series, which will be in stores beginning in Spring 2015. Further details after the jump.
It doesn’t get much cooler than Scott Pilgrim, so among Oni Press’ plans for Comic-Con 2014 are a couple of choice Pilgrim items: Scott Pilgrim Volume 5: Evil and Collectors Editions – the Evil Edition has bonus content unavailable elsewhere, and the Collector’s Edition half-a-dozen extra bonuses – including a pair of Kim Pine drumsticks!
Other cool items include the Official Ramona Flowers Bag; I Was The Cat Hardcover Edition (purchasers all receive Benjamin Dewey’s “I WAS WHAT KIND OF CAT?” infographic flowchart, and masks of Burma the cat, will be given away throughout the the weekend); Letter 44 Volume 1: Escape Velocity (writer Charles Sproule will be signing copies); Letter 44 #8 Convention Exclusive Variant; Letter 44 Mission Patch; and more.

Combine the politics of a new President of the United States with the possibility of a threat from outer space, and you have the premise of Oni Press’ critically acclaimed Letter 44 – a premise, and a hit comics series that has found a potential television home. Letter 44 is being developed as a series by Syfy.
The series is being developed by genre veterans Showrunner René Echevarria (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Castle, The 4400) and Writer/Director Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3, U-571). For more, check out the press release after the jump.
One of the great things about Comic-Con is the opportunity to check out lots of indie press stuff that you might not get to see anywhere else. Oni Press has one or two majorly hit titles (like Scott Pilgrim) but also produces a lot of great stuff that doesn’t enjoy quite the same high profile – even though it probably should.
This year, Oni is taking some pretty incredible stuff to Comic-Con 2013: an exclusive Mysterious Strangers set of two with interlocking Mike and Laura Allred covers; a Comic-Con exclusive of Letter 44 (from Swamp Thing and Thunderbolts writer Charles Soule); a limited edition, full-color Dana and Nola print by Same Kieth (The Maxx); Courtney Crumrin Barrettes and much, much more.
The company will also host a host of panels including Breaking Into Comics Right Now and You’ve Broken Into Comics, Now What? How to Be A Pro. For a complete list of neat Oni stuff and panel times and subjects, follow the jump.
