Comic-Con 2016: MTV’s Fandom Award Nominations!

MTVFandom

MTV’s 3rd annual Fandom Awards are set to take place next week in Petco Park. It’ll probably be one of the highlights of SDCC. Through an exclusive partnership with Tumblr, votes for “Ship of the Year,” will be cast solely on Tumblr.  MTV will launch a unique post for each of the nominees on the MTV Tumblr page, with the winner determined by the post with the largest vote count. Whoever designed and approved this awful logo should be fired.

This year’s nominees include: “Olicity” (Oliver + Felicity, “Arrow”), “Stucky” (Steve + Bucky, Captain America: Civil War), “Stormpilot” (Finn + Poe, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens ), “Stydia” (Stiles + Lydia, “Teen Wolf”),  “Clexa” (Clarke + Lexa, “The 100”), “Westallen” (Iris West + Barry Allen, “The Flash”) and “Malec” (Magnus Bane + Alec Lightwood, Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments).

My vote is last year’s Clexa – not this year because they ruined it – before the death we shall not name. The death just put an exclamation point on that cluster f that was this season. Maybe I’ll go with Stydia, I do love me some Stiles, but they haven’t been a thing in awhile.  Is it sad that I watch all of these shows and know who the ships are? I’m a fan at Comic-Con, come on!

MTV and BET Team Up For a Conversation

mtvnews

I’ve stayed off of Social Media the last few days because I find myself getting more and more disgusted with it. MTV News and BET should be applauded for trying to elevate the conversation. Last night the two networks teamed up to have a conversation about Race relations in America. You can watch highlights here and if you want to find resources on doing more, check out MTV/BET’s new community website here.

It Has Begun Teaser: The Shannara Chronicles!

Shannara - Cool Poster

Humans, elves, evil beasties, magic and John Rhys-Davis – there are worse ways to start an epic fantasy series.

Seriously, though, The Shannara Chronicles looks pretty impressive. Check out the action-packed teaser that follows the jump. The Shannara Chronicles premieres on January 5, 2016.

Epic Fantasy First Look: The Chronicles of Shannara!

shannara

Terry Brooks’ Shannara novels have outsold almost every other writer of epic fantasy (J.K. Rowling being the only exception) and has a worldwide following.

MTV is bringing the series to television as The Shannara Chronicles and screened a first look video at Comic-Con. It looks like it has Game of Thrones potential – great cast (John Rhys-Davies, James Remar, Ivana Banquero), great locations (New Zealand) and terrific effects (WETA!).

Check it out after the jump. The Shannara Chronicles premiere in January 2016.

MTV’s Artist To Watch Tour Review – Austin Mahone, Midnight Red, Becky G

AustinMahoneUse

Ok, this is where I admit that I’m old, not the hipster all one of you may think I am. Starting off as a YouTube sensation, Austin Mahone is blowing up big time. The obvious comparison is Justin Bieber (before he went nuts), but I don’t want to compare. When I saw him at JingleBall 2013 a few months ago, I was astounded by how crazy the 16,000 fans that packed the Verizon Center was for this floppy-haired kid.
