A one-hour musical television special, “Encore!,” will premiere on ABC on Sunday, Dec. 10th (10:00/9C). Kristen Bell, reunites the cast of a high school musical and asks them to perform it again twenty years later. Each former student reprises their role from their original production of Stephen Sondheim and James LaPine’s Tony-winning musical, “Into the Woods” under the tutelage of Broadway directors, choreographers and voice coaches.
In the month of May, Starz Network is going all in on the summer Super Hero craze by airing 23 Uncut Superhero films throughout the month and of course this means weekend long marathons. Said, but I own every one of these films and I’m still down for some quality vegging. Throughout the month of May, “The Heroes Collection” will continue to feature some of the most beloved superheroes such as action fantasy Iron Man 3, one of the biggest blockbusters of 2013, featuring an impressive ensemble cast of Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Ben Kingsley; the classic 1978 Oscar®-nominated Superman, starring Christopher Reeve and Marlon Brando; the action comedy Men In Black 3, with award-winning actors Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprising their popular roles; the box office hit The Amazing Spider-Man, with rising stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone leading the extraordinary cast including Denis Leary; and the Academy Award®-winning animated comedy The Incredibles, written and directed by entertainment powerhouse Brad Bird. Calling Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves a super hero film is a bit of a stretch, but hey I love that movie, so I’m still down. There are some glaring omissions from this line-up, I challenge you to tell me what they are.
Looking for something to do on Turkey Day besides watch Football? Starz STARZ and ENCORE are bringing you some tasty holiday treats this season with special programming in November and December including an Animation Marathon on Thanksgiving Day and nothing says Christmas like a Tarantino marathon.
Why did I ever purchase that amazing James Bond Blu-ray collection when Encore runs a month of Uncut Bond films in glorious HD every few months? It’s that time of the year again, starting Sunday night at 8 pm a new Bond will run every night in the month of September and this time we’ll even get The World Is Not Enough. ENCORE’s The James Bond Collection will kick off with a Special 2-Day Labor Day Weekend Marathon on September 1st, followed by a Bond film each night in September at 8pm et/pt. Another mini-marathon will air September 29th and the Collection will end with Sean Connery’s Goldfinger. I somehow never get tired of these marathons and always end up watching at least several of these. I just wish they’d finally include all the films on Encore OnDemand for a few months. Full schedule after the break.
“We gotta win this race!” “Lemonade, that cool refreshing drink…” Elvis fans listen up! Encore is celebrating the month of may with an Elvis Movie marathon. The Elvis Collection Whole Lotta Elvis will feature 24 Uncut Elvis films. The collection includes all the classics including King Creole, Jailhouse Rock, Viva Las Vegas and my personal favorites Speedway and the cool docudrama This is Elvis. Elvis The Pelvis all month on Encore kicks off May 1st with Girls, Girls, Girls. On Saturday, May 25th, Encore will have an all day Elvis marathon. The full schedule is after the break.
Four-part mini-series The Take [Encore, Fridays, 9/8C] is an explosive crime thriller that feels like a fusion of The Sopranos and Shakespeare.
Don’t forget, this weekend Encore’s Big 80s Weekend marathon. Almost every awesome movie from the 80s is going to air starting Christmas Day, highlights include all the John Hughes movies, Fast Time At Ridgemont High, Back To The Future, Goonies, Wall Street, Purple Rain, The Blues Brothers, Weird Science and more. I looked at the full list last week and couldn’t find a dud in the bunch. I’m back home in MD, so I’ll be able to watch all this 80s goodness on EncoreHD. Just an amazing line up of nostalgia. Also this weekend they will be debuting a brand new documentary about the late, great John Hughes called “Don’t You Forget About Me,” featuring appearance The mini-press release and full list is after the break.
