Country music superstar/legend Dolly Parton’s first album, Hello, I’m Dolly, was released 50 years ago today.
The album contained the hit singles Dumb Blonde (written by Curly Putman) and Something Fishy, a Parton composition – as well as Parton’s versions of three songs she wrote that had already been hits for other artists: “Put it Off Until Tomorrow” (Bill Phillips), “Fuel to the Flame” (Skeeter Davis), and “I’m In No Condition” which charted by Hank Williams Jr.

The 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be broadcast live on TNT and TBS.

Dolly Parton has announced the creation of the My People fund – a fund to assist those who have lost their homes in the fires that have ravaged the Great Smoky Mountain /Sevier County region of Tennessee. Each family who lost their homes will receive $1,000 each month.
The fund is the result of a partnership between The Dollywood Company and The Dollywood Foundation.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library started out as a community outreach program and has grown into the world’s largest literacy program – in December it will distribute 1,000,000 books to children around the globe.
Not bad for a program that was initially intended to serve Parton’s home county of Sevier County, Tennessee.
To celebrate this milestone, Evey Johns, a two-year-old from Conway, Arkansas who just enrolled in the Imagination Library, has been randomly selected to receive a $30,000 college scholarship.

NBC is in the Dolly Parton business, having just signed a deal to develop two-hour TV movies based on the songs, stories and life of the legendary country music star.
The deal was announced by NBC Entertainment chairman, Robert Greenblatt who produced the Broadway version of ‘9 to 5: The Musical that starred Parton.

The Joyful Noise Soundtrack has got to be one of the most positive and uplifting soundtracks I have heard in a while. This is an album that grabs your attention immediately with the first song, “Not Enough”. Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah sound incredible and make a great duo on this opener but of course this song would not be complete with out the backing vocals of the choir.
