Fifty years of Comic-Con, and I was there to discover what new treats lay for the attendees of this vast convention devoted to comic books. Comic Con ran from July 18-21, with preview night on July 17. Announcements, screenings, and trailers for returning and upcoming new TV shows and movies were present daily. There was so much to see and so little time to see them!
VIZ Media will be featuring appearances by the One Punch Man voice cast, RWBY animation talent and a Dragon Ball Super creator; Sailor Moon and Weekly Shonen Jump panels; Con exclusive Sailor Moon and RWBY giveaways; merchandise including a Grecco ‘Kakashi Hatake’ figure (above left) and a One Piece Replica (above right), plus much, much more at New York Comic-Con 2016.
Valiant Entertainment will be making an announcement about a top secret live-action digital project that will feature its popular Ninjak character.
The project is directed by Bat in the Sun’s Aaron & Sean Schoenke, the co-creators of the massively successful YouTube sensation Super Power Beat Down. For the first look at actor Michael Rowe in costume as Ninjak, read on.
As BOOM! Studios prepares to invade New York Comic-Con 2016, the publisher is teasing upcoming projects to be formally announced or featured at the Con.
For Day Two of Road To New York, BOOM! is announcing a new series from novelist Delilah S. Dawson (Star Wars: The Perfect Weapon, Wake of Vultures) and artist Ashley A. Woods (Niobe: she Is Life). for more, read on.
Lots of stuff from Marvel Studios today at Comic-Con 2016. The casts of Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 all made appearances and some new title treatments were revealed.
Also, there was the new poster and trailer for Doctor Strange (see previous post) and one other really big announcement (see next post).
EuraCorp has released a new photo from Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. It features Dane DeHaan looking like he’s thinking, ‘Sonuvabitch must pay!’ (Apologies to John Carpernter’s Jack Burton…) Check it out after the break.
Besson’s passion project space opera is slated for a July 21st, 2017 release in France, with North american dates TBD.
