It’s been three years since the last time we visited Broadchurch. Both Detective Inspector Alec Hardy and Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller are back on the team at Broadchruch CID after some hopefully recuperative time away when a local woman is sexually assaulted.
Evidence suggests this was not an opportunistic attack; it was planned.
DI Hardy and DS Miller must catch the person responsible or there could well be more such attacks.
The second season of Broadchurch continues to tell the story of how a young boy’s murder affects the entire coastal town of Broadchurch when the man who confessed to Danny Latimer’s murder suddenly changes his plea to not guilty – forcing everyone to relive the investigation of Danny’s death.
Academy Award nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste joins the cast as Joe Miller’s defense attorney, while the legendary Charlotte Rampling plays the Crown Prosecutor, Jocelyn Knight. Emmy winner David Tennant and three-time BAFTA winner Olivia Colman return as former police detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller – who have another problem in the person of Claire Ashworth (Eva Myles, Torchwood) – whom Hardy has been hiding in a cottage just outside town – to keep them hopping.
Broadchurch returns to BBC America on Wednesday, March 4th (10/9C). For further details, follow the jump.
Season One of Broadchurch was an unexpected jewel – a procedural that paid as much attention to the grief of the family of a murdered boy – and the reaction of the community in which the murder occurred – as it did to the investigation of that murder.
Season Two of the critically acclaimed series comes to BBC America on February 4, 2015 – and it looks like it could be just as involving. Check out the UK Trailer after the jump.
The Clone Club Continues! Orphan Black will return for a third 10-episode season.
Broadchurch (now being adapted, well, by Fox for the U.S.) will also return with original cast members David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan and Arthur Darvill being joined by Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James D’Arcy, Eve Myles and Phoebe Waller-Bridge joining the show.
As well as the previously announced The Last Kingdom, BBC America is also adding Tatau, from the makers of the original Being Human, to their schedule. Like The Last Kingdom, production will begin in the fall. For more details follow the jump.
Breaking Bad Emmy Award winner Anna Gunn and Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver have joined the cast of Fox’s Gracepoint – the American take on UK hit Broadchurch. They join David Tennant, whose role will echo the character he played in the original.
Gunn takes on the role of Detective Ellie Miller, who misses out on a promised promotion but is soon involved in investigating a terrible tragedy with a prickly new partner. Weaver has been cast as Susan Wright, a ‘glowering, mysterious woman who is new to town and lives in the RV park, alone with her dog.’

Broadchurch (BBC America, Wednesdays, 10/9C), premiering tonight, deals with the murder of a young boy in the titular English coastal town. It follows a single case through eight deliberately paced episodes that track both the murder investigation and the effect that both have on the town. It is also very, very good.
BBC America has released a trailer for the mystery series Broadchurch – which we profiled earlier this week. Premiering as part of the network’s Dramaville Wednesday evening programming, the eight-episode series stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman and features Arthur Darvill, another Doctor Who alumnus. Broadchurch begins August 7th.
Following his stint as the tenth Doctor on Doctor Who – and a satisfyingly tense turn on the miniseries, Spies of Warsaw – David Tennant will be back on American television as by-the-book DI (Detective Inspector) Alec Hardy, a dour, bristly sort whose recent posting to Broadchurch makes him the superior officer to Olivia Colman’s DS (Detective Sergeant) Ellie Miller in Broadchurch (BBC America, Wednesdays, 10/9C).
The eight-episode series is centered around the murder of a young boy, and explores the impact of the murder on the quiet seaside town. Check out the press release, after jump, for more details – including episode taglines and character descriptions. Broadchurch premieres on August 7th.
