Ok, it’s official I DESPISE Apple. I just landed this interesting new gig reviewing iPhone games for another news organization and think I can be impartial because hey, I do love my iPod Touch, I’ve never had a problem with that device, but every other Apple Product gives me FITS. My iPad will not stay connected to my home network so I cannot use it to surf the net while in bed defeating the whole point of having it. I keep holding out hope for the promised fix, but it’s been 3 months already! Last week I updated all of my devices to iOS and nothing but issues. My iPhone 3G now crashes apps a lot, drops calls, is slow as heck and Safari doesn’t seem to work on a lot of different web pages now.
Last week EA Games had a great deal, I purchased 8 games for $.99 and iTunes billed me for 30 music tracks that I didn’t authorize and they never downloaded to my machine. Contacted Apple support, they did refund my credit card but was really snide about it saying “we will make this one time exception,” keep in mind I have almost $800 worth of PURCHASES on their dumb store!
This morning I wanted to update my Apps and my iTunes Account is now disabled, I logged in to check purchase history to discover yet ANOTHER unauthorized purchase. It’d be one thing if these purchases actually downloaded into my music library but they are billing me for stuff that they are not even delivering!
The problem is I feel like Apple has me by the short hairs because I’m so locked into iTunes. I have 5,000 tracks and over a hundred playlists (a lot of iTunes Essentials) that I carefully created or purchased over the years and I don’t want to have to manually recreate all my Playlists.. Plus I have 30 Videos from all my Blu-rays that are in the Apple format. I also just really don’t like how Zune works and it wouldn’t work with my iPod Touch (the only Apple device that hasn’t given me issues).
I really want to switch to an HTC Evo this weekend, now that my iPhone 3G is screwed up, but I don’t want to switch to yet another bad carrier and especially not Sprint. I had Verizon for years and their service was horrible. I actually like ATT – my bills have always been correct (unlike Verizon), they don’t nickel and dime, usually (unlike Verizon) and the service is great in my area – it’s when I go out of town it never works.
The easiest way forward is to get the iPhone 4, but now that I hear left-handed people need not bother to try it gives me pause. I’m sure the signal reception problem only affects a small percentage of users, knowing my track record with Apple products, I’m positive I would be one of those people.
Every time I try and switch to back to Windows, I end up staring at my Macbook thinking, man, I spent a small fortune on that machine and it mocks me, so I always end up going back. Not to mention my Dell Inspiron is just the worst computer I’ve ever owned. So what do I do? Do I stick it out with Apple, or just cut the chord already?
I’m just tired of being locked into a world where the devices are pretty, easy, but never seem to function the way they should. Am I an Apple Fangirl and just don’t want to admit it? I feel like an abused wife – oh, please come back, the iPhone 4 is shiny and I promise I won’t hit you again. I’ll control my drinking this time…
