Hello horror movie fans. If you haven’t been paying attention to Comic-Con or been looking for the lastest news from Guillermo del Toro, then this might be news to ya. Miramax Films has teamed up with screenwriters Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins to release a remake of the 1973 film “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark”. It will be directed by Troy Nixey and will star Katie Holmes (Batman Begins), Bailee Madison (Bridge To Terabithia), and Guy Pearce (The Propositon/Memento). The current plot/synopsis is this: “The film tells the story of a young girl sent to live with her father and his girlfriend in a restored mansion who discovers creatures living in the basement. When the creatures turn nasty, the nightmare begins, and the child is unable to convince the adults of the imminent danger.” For those that attended Comic-Con, on Friday the 23rd, there was a panel for this movie and those lucky individuals (myself included) got to see footage from this movie for the first time. According to IMDB, “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” will be released on January 21, 2011. There currently isn’t any trailers available or set pictures. So in the meantime, Fandango caught up the director Troy Nixey and IGN caught up with screenwriter/producer Guillermo del Toro to discuss the movie. I will continue to follow this movie.
