A Time To Review Gets The Latest On The Filmmakers Collaborative

The Tenth edition of “A Time To Review”, the interview program that features the leading personalities on the local media scene, and helps showcase them.

Bonnie Waltch, Executive Director of the Filmmakers Collaborative, Host / Producer Dan Berman engaged Bonnie in a discussion. The purpose behind the program and how the collaborative became what it is today.

Background

Bonnie Waltch has been around film even before she came to the organization. She was an assistant film editor on National Geographic television specials. She continued to climb the ladder within the television medium to Production Assistant to Producer/Director on many PBS science series, this includes “Planet Earth”, “The Ring Of Truth”, “Out Of The Past”, and “The Secret Of Life” (NOVA), and “Scientific American Frontiers”. She was also a part-time business manager WGBH/BBC’s live, international “Millennium Day” broadcast.

Michal Goldman, Founder of the Filmmakers Collaborative started it in 1986. Michal founded the well-established Boston Jewish Film Festival in 1989, and for the past sixteen years has been president of The Filmmakers Collaborative. As an independent filmmaker she likes to observe how people try to change their circumstances, whether they are reconnecting with a musical tradition or a new school. She has recently completed “Epiphany in Progress” and is in production on “Living in the Coops”. The Filmmakers Collaborative is an established 501(c3) a non-profit organization.

This helps and supports the effort to connect with the Greater Boston area; Filmmakers Collaborative has developed a new outreach program called “Film Talks”, and “Filmmakers Open Studio” check the web site for further information. The goal is to bring fellow filmmakers and their award winning work to the community. This will certainly bring a vast array of subjects, ideas, and most importantly people. This is why The Filmmakers Collaborative is so vital to the community bringing the audience and filmmaker to engage and encourage dialogue. The organization runs on grants that helps fund film projects so their Producers can build upon putting together their film. When an individual applies to this organization he/she must submit a budget, screenplay, and an outline of what film the individual wants to produce. If the idea seems in the best interest of the collaborative then the project goes forward.

Films

The program displayed clips of completed film works from their talented Producers. From this well recognized organization that has dedicated itself in helping young talent. Bonnie introduced each clip here are the films that we saw during the interview.

Produced by Katherine Dietz and Susan Williams gives to you a documentary called “Eleanor Roosevelt” a truly deep under standing of the life and times of this historical figure. This extraordinary documentary is a two and a half-hour film for public television, which examines this one prominent woman under intense controversy. The documentary looks at this through archival footage, photographs, audio recordings, FBI files, home movies, speeches, and interviews. The film made its debut on the PBS series, The American Experience.

“Double Burden: Three Generations of Working Mothers” is a close look at three mothers who are trying to support their families. This film talks about three mothers whose mission is to be sure that food is put on the table; clothing is on their children’s backs. And the burden that lays on their shoulders everyday. Produced by Marlene Booth this one-hour film is certainly something extraordinary to see and remember.

Other subjects includes but not limited too African Studies, Aging, American Studies, Arabic Studies, Art and Visual, Chinese Studies, Community Issues, Ecology, and education just to name a few subjects. This program gives the opportunity for these filmmakers and their work to shine.
