The 74th Annual Tony Awards Interviews

Broadway’s Back…. and ready to give the audience what they want….. LIVE THEATRE! Sunday night was the 74th Annual Tony Awards and Broadway’s finest will be celebrated and honored once more with feeling. “We’re a little late, but we are here!” host Audra McDonald said at the top of the ceremony, taking place at New York’s Winter Garden Theatre. Its a great feeling to see the Tonys after Broadway and theatres around the world went dark in March 2020 to finally rise again like the phoenix just weeks ago. 

Among the nominees this year, “Jagged Little Pill” leads with 15 Tony nominations, and right behind it is “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” with 14 nods. Last night awards truly delivered the goods with appearances by Broadway’s finest including legends Chita Rivera and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber announcing the Best Play which went to “The Inheritance”.  It was clear that Broadway owns Sunday Night! Yesterday, I got to talk to some of the night’s big winners!

NBC Assembles All-Star Production Team For Hairspray!

Along with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Maron (who have produced all of the network’s live musicals to date), NBC is putting together quite the team for its live production of Hairspray.

Joining the team are director Kenny Leon (The Wiz Live!, A Raisin in the Sun), choreographer Jerry Mitchell (La Gage Aux Folles, Kinky Boots) and script adaptor Harvey Fierstein (Hairspray, Torch Song Trilogy) – along with original songwriters Mark Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

Hairspray is set to premiere on Wednesday, December 7th (8/7C). For more, follow the jump.

NBC Is Off To See The Wiz!


The Wiz has been chosen as NBC’s next live musical presentation. The production will be executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron – but there’s a twist!

NBC will also team up with a new production partner – Cirque Du Soleil, whose new stage theatrical division will co-produce the live TV event on Thursday, December 3rd and then present it as a major Broadway revival for the 2016-17 season.

The Wiz will be directed by Tony-winner Kenny Leon with additional material by Harvey Fierstein.
