It’s tough to do just a DVD review anymore since many movies, especially those being released by Warner Home Video, are being packaged as combos that include DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Download. So this is really a review of both the DVD and the Blu-Ray discs since both are included in the packaging.

It seems like only yesterday, but it was actually back in late April that I was sitting down in the theater to see an advanced screening of a movie called The Losers. The Losers, which is based on a graphic novel of the same name, was an all out action movie about a special-forces unit consisting of Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Jensen (Chris Evans), Roque (Idris Elba), Pooch (Columbus Short), and Cougar (Oscar Jaenada) who reluctantly join forces with a mysterious woman named Aisha (Zoe Saldana) to stop a rogue CIA agent named Max (Jason Patric)  who burned Clay’s team during a covert military operation in Bolivia.  Under the direction Sylvain White and the outstanding casting of the actors in the their various roles, The Losers was a non-stop thrill ride that I really thought would be a bigger box office draw than it ended up as. But then my inner child is a 12 year old boy, or so I have been told by my friends, so I might be a little biased when it comes to action movies with lots of explosions and wild chase scenes. I mean right after seeing The Losers for the first time, I wanted to go back and see it again I liked it so much.

To me the movie was a nice balance of action and character drama. Clay’s team of ‘Losers’ as he called them were a good mix of macho, funny and heroic. Aisha wasn’t some stereotypical ‘ model pretty, kick ass chick’. She had mystery and inner strength as well as outer beauty and combat skills.

So here we are, three months later, writing a review of the movie’s release by Warner Brothers Home Video onto a combo pack for home viewing entertainment.

Movie Review: The Losers Has All the Makings of A Box Office Winner

Anyone Else Would Be Dead By Now: The Losers is a tale of double cross and revenge centered upon the members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team-Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar -find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda, joins them. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war.

That’s the official Warner Brothers synopsis for the movie The Losers, which stars among others, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans and Jason Patric. It is based on characters in a graphic novel created by Andy Diggle and illustrated by Jocko. I have to admit right now, I’ve never read the graphic novels and so going into the screening of this action movie I knew absolutely nothing about the story of these four men and the lovely, mysterious Aisha, other than they were being played by actors I enjoy seeing on screen and that they were on a mission of revenge. I came out of the screening not only wanting to immediately see The Losers again, but with high anticipation for the sequel that surely has to be forthcoming.

Television: Supernatural Ruminations – Dean and Sam Winchester and the Effects of What a Girl Says

Supernatural season 4 came back from its break  these past two weeks to hit its audience with two very powerful and revealing new episodes: Death Takes a Holiday and On the Head of a Pin. I just wanted to share my thoughts about this ‘one-two’ combination of punches that, in my opinion, have left our Winchester brothers and us as viewers reeling on the ropes.

One of the first things that has really jumped out at me as a viewer of Supernatural after watching these two recent new episodes is while that this show is suppose to be about Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles): who are two ghost hunting, demon fighting brothers driving around in their ’67 Chevy Impala ‘muscle car’ loaded with weapons, the boys lives and their fates have become tied into some pretty heavy duty estrogen driven influences in the fourth season. In fact these influences began to show themselves in season 4 as early as in the episode ‘In the Beginning’ when we found out that the boy’s mother Mary (played in this episode by Amy Gumenick) was a hunter. It came to light that perhaps in many ways it was Mary’s life as a hunter that affected the destinies and fates of her son’s Dean and Sam more than being raised alone by their father after her death at the hands of the YED.
