Matador: Spies, Soccer and Secrets!

El Rey’s Matador (Tuesdays, 9/8C) is the second original scripted series for the network and catches the cachet of the World Cup, the idea of the 1% taking over the world, and good old espionage. It’s a bit like a current take of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. with a Hispanic Napoleon Solo. It’s smart, fun and knowing.

El Rey Orders Second Season of Matador!

El Rey’s spy series Matador doesn’t even premiere until next week but the network, clearly pleased by what it sees so far, has given the show a 13- episode second season order.

Battlestar Galactica/Eureka Vet James Callis Joins El Rey’s Matador!

James Callis – best know for playing Dr. Gaius Baltar on Battlestar Galactica and the the benefactor of Eureka, Dr. Trevor Grant – has been signed to play Lucien Sayer on El Rey’s new espionage series, Matador. Sayer is ‘a mysterious figure who commands a fraternity of the world’s most elite businessmen, politicians and influencers.’

Matador is Tony ‘Matador’ Bravo, a former DEA agent who uses his cover as the newest star of soccer’s L.A. Riot  to track down a secret cabal of the world’s wealthiest men – who believe they should be running the world. El Rey Premieres Matador In July!

Following the success of its first scripted drama, From Duck Till Dawn, El Rey will debut its second original scripted drama, Matador, on Tuesday, July 15th (9/8C).

The series stars Gabriel Luna as soccer star Tony ‘Matador’ Gravo whose legendary playboy reputation is, in fact, a cover – he’s actually an operative for a little known branch of the CIA. An international cast – that includes Alfred Molina, Peter Gadiot and Elizabeth Pena – adds to the show’s appeal. For more details, check out the press release following the jump.
