As the song goes, “Oh a happy day. Oh, happy day!” One of my dream 4K UHD releases was announced today – The Wizard of Oz is getting a 4K UHD Release on Digital and 4K UHD Combo Pack on October 29th! There’s nothing about the BS 2 week window, so I’m hoping this truly will be both formats will release on the same day. I’m so tired of having to wait 2 weeks for the physical release.
Beyond the fact that The Wizard of OZ is probably in my top 4 favorite films of all time, it’s also very colorful and had frame by frame restoration done a few years ago and already looks fantastic on Blu-ray so it should look stunning in 4K HDR. Also of note, it will support Dolby Vision HDR. This time they are using an 8K, 16 bit scan. Wow. All of this goodness is going to come at an astounding $42 price tag. Really Warner Home Video? This better be a glorious full screen presentation.

One of the most popular horror films of 2019, Jordan Peele’s US starring Academy Award® winner Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther, 12 Years a Slave), Winston Duke (Black Panther), Emmy® winner Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Mad Men”) and Tim Heidecker (The Comedy, “Tim & Eric’s Bedtime Stories”) hits home on Digital June 4th and the tasty physical media June 18th. Ok, the whole two week delay between Digital and Physical releases really ticks me off and is just irritating. Check out the official press release to see all the tasty extras.

What up people? One of my favorite Batman stories, Batman: Hush is finally coming to glorious 4K UHD on August 13th, my Birthday month so Warner Home Video if you are listening, I doubt you are, my Birthday. Yep, it’s my birthday month. Just saying, it hits digital July 20th, right in the middle of SDCC. So you know what this means? They are definitely having a screening of this movie during San Diego Comic Con. I really hate that digital and physical releases aren’t day and date anymore, drives me NUTS. I won’t be buying a digital version of this because it’ll be available on DCUniverse soon after release, however, I love my physical media. Press release, details and trailer below.

At Disney’s D23 Expo, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer announced that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is also coming to glorious 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 3rd. In addition to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, this marks Disney’s 2nd 4k UHD Release, hopefully this is a sign that Disney is now fully aboard the 4K Bandwagon. My question and hope remains that this means Disney’s Movies Anywhere will also now stream in 4K UHD.

The day has finally come when Marvel and Disney finally jump on the 4K UHD Blu-ray bandwagon! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will be Disney’s first official 4k UHD Blu-ray release. Sure you can purchase the Iron-Man Trilogy from some German distributor but some how I doubt that’s an official release, so I’m not going to count that. Guardians, coming out August 2nd, will be Marvel’s first official title. This is where I subtlety remind the Disney person that reads this article, that I own a really nice LG OLED 4K TV and a nice Samsung UHD player. Hint.

When I first saw La La Land at AMC’s Best Picture showcase I walked away feeling meh about the film and I hated the ending. But it’s weird, I’m still thinking about them film several weeks later. I can’t wait to watch this again on 4K UHD. It should be beautiful. The movie comes home April 11th. They are smoking crack if they think people are going to pay $42 for this movie, however the 4K UHD is currently available for pre-order for $29.

I have a nice 4K Oled TV and just purchased the new Sony UHD Player so I’m always on the lookout for new 4K content. The problem is most 4K UHD Movies are outrageously expensive at $30.00. Prices are slowly dropping. The Expendables 1 and 2 UHD Combo Pack will be on 4K, March 2nd for a more reasonable $22.00.
