LIVE DVD AVAILABLE NOWElectronic music producer deadmau5 has made his brand new single “maths” (Ultra Music/mau5trap) available worldwide today (February 17) via Beatport, iTunes, Spotify and ZUNE. Like his last single release “aural psynapse,” released in November 2011, the pulsating “maths” was part of his live repertoire from his Meowingtons Hax North American tour and is featured in his current live DVD offering Meowingtons Hax 2k11 TORONTO. Hear the song—which will be featured during Swedish House Mafia’s take-over on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show tonight at 9 p.m. GST—at http://smarturl.it/maths.
The Canadian, platinum-selling, independent artist made history on November 5, 2011, when he became the first Canadian artist as well as the first electronic artist to have a headlining concert at Toronto’s Rogers Centre, marking the last stop of his record-breaking Meowingtons Hax North American tour. The amazing, state-of-the-art live Rogers Centre show captured for Meowingtons Hax 2k11 TORONTO brings the viewer mind-blowing visuals and live performance of some of his biggest hits and previously unreleased tracks which includes “maths.”
In other news, deadmau5 joined the Foo Fighters, David Guetta, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne for a special performance during the 54th Annual GRAMMY® Awards telecast on CBS this past Sunday, February 12, marking the first-time ever electronic music was spotlighted on the show. His contribution, which featured his Grammy-nominated remix of the Foo Fighters’ “Rope” and “Raise Your Weapon,” sparked attention around the globe.
Wrote August Brown and Margaret Wappler of the Los Angeles Times (2/13/12), “…the Toronto producer Joel Zimmerman, was up for dance awards as well as best remixed recording, non-classical for his edit of Foo Fighters’ ‘Rope,’ under his alias deadmau5. He closed out the performance Sunday night with plenty of Ibiza-worthy bass drops. Zimmerman, whose own shows are an audio-visual melange of original music and live editing, viewed his turn on the Grammy stage as less an acknowledgement from the music establishment that he’s joined their club, and more as a platform to further explore and popularize his longstanding goals of inventive, provocative electronica. ‘I’ve never been on a crusade to get respect for dance music, and for a long time I felt like I was the only guy who wasn’t,’ Zimmerman said. But at the same time, he did want to take the Grammy occasion to expose the craft to more people. There’s not a single dude out there who doesn’t want to be heard. This was a genre that was cultivated by weirdos, and (the Grammy nod) is certainly good for our careers.’”
deadmau5 was nominated for three GRAMMY Awards including Best Dance/Electronica Album for his critically acclaimed LP 4×4=12 (Ultra Music), Best Dance Recording for “Raise Your Weapon” with Greta Svabo Bech and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for his stellar remix of the Foo Fighters’ “Rope.”
