Walt Disney Studios has announced the cast for Jon Favreau’s live-action take on The Lion King – and there are just a few names that will ring a few bells (or, in this case, roar). Frankly the only three who aren’t stars (yet) are the kids playing Young Simba and Young Nala and young woman playing Shenzi. Expect that to change shortly.
Disney’s The Lion King is slated to premiere on July 19, 2019.
Disney and Lucasfilm today kicked off the countdown to Force Friday II, the global event celebrating the launch of the products from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, with an AR surprise for Star Wars fans around the world.
Fans within a mile of 20 global landmarks simply open the Star Wars App, select Find the Forceand point their phone to the sky to see a short augmented reality scene unfold. The 10-second animation shows a Star Destroyer loom over key landmarks as two TIE Fighters shoot past into the distance.
The opening sequence of Dead Men Tell No Tales finds young Henry (Lewis McGowan) rowing out to sea, tying a bag of rocks to his leg and plunging into the sea – where he lands on the deck of the sunken Flying Dutchman and we learn that he is the son of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom).
From there we shift to Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and his crew robbing a bank – an effort that takes a hilarious path.
It’s a true pity that the rest of the movie couldn’t have been as inventive.
