We were there for the birth of Vikings and it’s only fitting that we’re going to be at Comic-Con for the end of their Journey. The folks at History Channel are going all out in their farewell activities, while at the same time saying hello to their latest series Nightfall! I’m assuming this isn’t Batman related 🙂 Official twitter handle is #VikingsSDCC @HistoryVikings and #KnightfallSDCC.
HISTORY’s VIKINGS hits the ground at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con with complimentary rides in a VIKINGS-branded Long Ship. Fans will be treated to special VIKINGS rides as the custom ship makes its way through the heart of San Diego on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11. While on board, fans will be gifted a VIKINGS drinking horn (a returning fan favorite from last year’s Comic-Con!), which gives them access to drink specials at select bars throughout the Gaslamp Quarter throughout the weekend.
It is safe to say that the Pirate ship has been sufficiently plundered, so to be different the folks at the History Channel went in a different direction with their latest scripted series – Vikings. The 9 episode season 1 is now available in a slip-cased Blu-ray/DVD Set. If you are looking for a soapy, action filled show to veg on, this is one worth checking out.
Behind every good man stands a strong woman ready to kick his ass if he gets out of line. The task is even more difficult when you are dealing with Vikings! Katheryn Winnick and Jessalyn Gilsig are just as strong and graceful in person. I’l admit it, I went a bit overboard and took over the roundtable for these two amazing women. We got into an extended conversation about how TV is leading the way with regards to portraying women in a positive, strong way.
SAN DIEGO, CA – JULY 19: Actors Clive Standen (L) and Travis Fimmel attend a media room for the History series “Vikings” during Comic-Con International 2013 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel on July 19, 2013 in San Diego, California. (Photo by Ethan Miller/WireImage)
Vikings stars Clive Standen (Rollo) and Travis Fimmel (Ragnar Lothbrok) stopped by our roundtable for a solid 10 minutes of Vikings fun! I told them I would ask them a stupid question and their response was there are no stupid questions, but I said people always say that until they hear the question. I asked what is the difference between a Viking and a Pirate and who wins that fight?
With original programming like the two mini-series Hatfields & McCoys and hit The Bible,The History Channel has been clicking with their original programming slate this year. Now their latest Vikings has been a critical darling and is gaining audience traction – especially if their recent appearance at SDCC is any indication. I had a chance to talk with the entire cast and the Show Runner. First up is Gustaf Skarsgard (Floki) and George Blagden (Athelstan). No, I didn’t realize this annoying woman was in my shot. We talk about their characters, fight choreography and more! I asked them what would they most like to do on the show and we talked about good bromance moments.
History’s miniseries, Vikings, premiere’s on Sunday, March 3rd. The new trailer (above) looks intriguing, as do the video profiles of three of Vikings cast of characters (following the jump): Rollo (Clive Standen), Athelstan (George Blagden) and Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard).
