Peter Capaldi’s Doctor makes his first appearance as the lead on BBC America’s Doctor Who on Saturday, August 23rd. The feature-length premiere is entitled Deep Breath. Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are joined by Sam Anderson, playing Danny Pink, a colleague of Clara’s from the Coal Hill School.

BBC America’s Intruders, premiering on August 23rd, is an atmospheric series about a secret society that seeks true immortality – but whose members survive in the meantime by possessing the bodies of others.

NBC celebrates America’s birthday with cross-generational performers – Ariana Grande, Hunter Hayes, Miranda Lambert and Lionel Richie to perform in the network’s annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular®. Nick Cannon, host of america’s Got Talent will host the two-hour live event on Friday, July (8/7C).
The Brooklyn Bridge will be the dramatic stage for the annual pyrotechnics display. Check out the press release for details.
Brian Van Holt, who plays the easy-going Bobby Cobb on Cougar Town, has been cast as Captain William Denninger, the commander of the starship Ascension. Denninger became captain by rising through the ranks – though it was his quick actions during a fire that nearly destroyed the ship early in its journey that proved he had leadership potential. He has a very public, if tortured marriage to Viondra (Tricia Helfer).
Ascension launches on Syfy in November – specific date to be determined – and will run through December.
NBC begins rolling out its fall 2014 schedule on Thursday, September 4th when Sunday Night football returns with Seattle hosting Green Bay. Three days later Indian visits Denver, following the season premiere of Football Night in America.
Monday, September 22nd brings the season premieres of The Blacklist and The Voice; Debra Messing’s working mom dramedy The Mysteries of Laura lands on the 24th; Parenthood’s final season premieres on the 25th, and new half-hour comedy, Marry Me debuts on October 14th. Grimm returns October 24th – leading into new supernatural series Constantine. Kate Walsh vehicle, Bad Judge premieres on October 2nd, and Katherine Heigl’s return to series TV, State of Affairs, premieres on November 17th.
As part of its run-up to the series premiere of Young & Hungry, starring Emily Osment, ABC Family has launched a promotion that gives viewers the chance to win free groceries for a year. How? Last week our own Tiffany did a series of great interviews with the amazing cast of The Secret Life of Bees. Those interviews will be posted over the next few days. But coincidently the folks at Oprah sent over this trailer. Queen Latifah, Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Sophie Okonedo will sit down with Oprah to discuss the film and answer viewer questions. Alicia Keys will close out the show with her hit song “Superwoman”! To think, Tiffany sat down with them before Oprah. This eppy airs this Thursday.
This past week was a big week for some of Hollywood’s ladies of televison with several lovely and big name stars scoring guest roles on hit primetime television series and moving into producing new new shows slated for the 2008 Fall TV season. Announcements were made this week about new roles and new projects for Oprah Winfrey, Cybill Sheppard, Jada Pinket-Smith and Danneel Harris.
Cybill Sheppard, well known for her role as Maddie in the hit series Moonlighting, is making a return to television with a guest appearance in the ABC comedy Samantha Who, which stars Christina Applegate. Sheppard along with “Dancing with the Stars’’ professional dancer, Mark Ballas, will be playing a ruthless dance team out to beat Samantha and her mother in an upcoming dance competition.
Jada Pinkett-Smith will be coming to TNT for a new drama pilot titled ‘Time Heal’s. Pinket-Smith, who will also be executive producer, is set to play a nurse and single mother who always puts the pain and issues of others first causing conflict for her family and those around her.
NBC’s ’30 Rock’ has scored a guest appearance by the queen of Daytime TV herself, Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey will guest-star in an episode of NBC’s “30 Rock.” The episode, which will air on November 6th, will be just in time for sweeps week.
And speaking of sweeps week, the hit CBS series How I Met Your Mother has announced that they have recast the guest character of Stella’s sister Nora, who will be appearing in an episode set to air in November. Summerland actress Sara Paxton had originally been announced for the role however series showrunners Craig Thomas and Carter Bays felt that the part called for someone older and tapped actress/Maxim model Danneel Harris to take on the role. Harris, who is known best for her former role as troublemaker Rachel Gatina on One Tree Hill, will also be reuniting with fellow Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay actor Neil Patrick Harris.
