The Red Road – SundanceTV’s second scripted drama series – may have started out with more potential than anything else, but it found its feet and became a very good show. Now it has been given a second six-episode season and, as someone who was on the fence about the show after its premiere, I’m very much looking forward to seeing where it goes next.
The Red Road revolves around two clashing communities – a small town and the neighboring mountains, home to a Native American tribe – and two dynamic men on a collision course – played by Jason Momoa and Martin Henderson. Season Two will run in 2015. For more, check out the press release following the jump.

The Red Road (Thursdays, 9/8C) is the second original scripted drama from Sundance TV (formerly Sundance Channel) and it is as ambitiously broad in scope as Rectify is in its intimacy. The series boils the travails of a well-to-do small town and a federally unrecognized tribe of Native Americans down to the efforts of the town’s sheriff and an ex-con member of the Lenape tribe. While not as immediately brilliant as Rectify, The Red Road has the seeds of greatness in it.

Sundance Channel – which has made one heckuva splash with its entry into the realm of scripted drama with Rectify, The Returned and Top of the Lake – has announced a launch date for its new drama series, The Red Road. The series – which stars Martin Henderson, Jason Momoa, Julianne Nicholson, Lisa Bonet and Tom Sizemore, among others – revolves around a local sheriff who has to keep his family together while policing two clashing communities: a small town just outside New York City (where he grew up) and the neighboring mountains, home to a tribe of federally unrecognized Native Americans.
The Red Road premieres on Sundance Channel Thursday, February 27th (9/8C). Check out the press release after the jump.

Lisa Bonet will play a Lenape Native American lawyer in a multi-episode arc on Sundance channel’s The Red Road, which is slated to premiere in 2014. Sky Van Der Veen returns to Walpole, NJ to ‘rally for justice after a terrible crime has been committed against a member of her tribe.”
Bonet is still probably best known for her role on The Cosby Show – and the radical departure from her TV image in her movie debut in Angel Heart, with Robert DeNiro. Follow the jump for the press release.
