GeekScholars Fox and Jill have returned from their jaunt in Austin for the 2017 South by Southwest Film Festival, and are here to report on the first half of the amazing films they saw! SXSW always features some truly amazing hidden gems, and this year was no different, so listen in to hear their thoughts on:
TBS will bring SXSW the best in tech, fashion, design, music and more with the second iteration of “In Search Of” — a pop-up, interactive marketplace with an Austin-flare, bringing to life the network’s buzzworthy hit, SEARCH PARTY.
Inside “In Search Of,” visitors will experience the ideal shop for SEARCH PARTY’s leading lady Dory, complete with the latest in fashion, technology, and artisanal goods, as well as a lounge space to kick back with friends and binge the first season.
In Search Of will be open to festival goers for three days – beginning at noon on Tuesday, March 14th.
AMC is taking its largest contingent ever to SXSW 2017 – with panels, signings, a screening and a pop up restaurant!
The network’s big screening is the world premiere of The Son – followed by a Q&A with star Pierce Brosnan.
Preacher Season Two will be the subject of a panel with executive producer Seth Rogen, showrunner Sam Catlin and co-executive producer/comics creator Garth Ennis.
The most unusual event is the pop up Los Pollos Hermanos restaurant – where Better Call Saul fans can sample Gus Fring’s menu from Friday, March 10th to Sunday, March 12th – and maybe even run into Bob Odenkirk and/or Giancarlo Esposito on Sunday.
Daniel Espinosa’s science-fiction/horror film Life – starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebeccas Ferguson and Ryan Teynolds – has been chose to close this SXSW Film Festival 2017.
SXSW also announced a number of late additions to its program – including the film adaptation of David Leitch’s adaptation of the manga hit Atomic Blonde, starring Charlize Theron, James McAvoy and John Goodman.
Netflix Original Films The Most Hated Woman In America (pictured) and Win It All will make their world premieres at SXSW in March.
The Most Most Hated Woman in America, the true story of the disappearance Madalyn Murray O’Hair, founder of american Atheists, will premiere on Netflix on March 24th.
Win It All, the story of a small time gambler who finds himself in trouble when an acquaintance gets out of jail early and wants the duffel bag of cash he was supposed to be keeping safe, premieres on Netflix on April 7th.
One of these years, I have to make it to Austin for SXSW! If you are a fan of Telltale Games, the guys behind the well received games for The Walking Dead are going to debut their latest – Batman at the show. Their serialized way of interactive story telling is a perfect fit for Batman!
El Rey Network is taking its Lucha Underground to SXSW for a one-time live event in Austin Texas on March 15th.
Following a panel entitled Importing Lucha Libre: The Creation of El Rey Network’s Lucha Underground, the network will present a live card featuring more than fifteen of Lucha Underground’s high-flying, death defying luchadores.
USA Network is taking its new hacker series, Mr. Robot to SXSW. The series premiere will screen at the Austin, Texas film & arts festival on Thursday, March 17th. Series stars, including Rami Malak and Christian Slater, will be in attendance.
Follow the jump for details. Mr. Robot will premiere on USA Network in June.
