Kara DioGuardi has been ruling the Billboard charts for years as the woman behind the music. Having penned hits for Pink, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera to name a few, Kara is one of the most in-demand songwriters in the business today. Thrown into the spotlight as a judge on American Idol, the world met Kara without realizing she had already been in their homes, on their iPods and through their radios for years. Still, despite DioGuardi’s significant contribution to pop, her life story has remained a mystery – until now. For the first time ever on television, in an intimate and personal interview, DioGuardi opens up to E! about her long journey towards success. Helping to tell her story are her husband, Mike McCuddy, her brother, John, her closest friends, professional colleagues including music industry legend Tommy Mottola, American Idol Executive Producer Ken Warwick and some of the artists for whom she has written hit songs including Kelly Clarkson, Jason DeRulo, Dave Stewart and Colbie Caillat.

Keep reading for highlights from the all-new THS which includes comments on celebrity friendships, eating disorders, frightening childhood memories, and life-changing decisions. The E! True Hollywood Story: Kara DioGuardi premieres tonight, October 26 at 10:00 PM on E!

Simon Cowell

Last week, Simon Cowell took a half an hour out of his hectic schedule to talk about his new singing competition series, The X-Factor [premiering on FOX, Wednesday, at 8/7C]. He was charming, funny and – in true Simon fashion – refreshingly blunt.

At a Press Conference in LA, Simon Cowell made it official, this will be his last season of American Idol. He wants to concentrate on bringing his British Hit “The X Factor” to America which will join Fox’s schedule next year. I can understand his decision if he wanted to work on a completely different type of show. I don’t know anything about The X-Factor but it’s supposed to be the British version of American Idol, so what’s the point of leaving Idol to work on yet another dumb “Talent” show? He misses his girl Paula, that’s what it is.

Paula Abdul

Say it isn’t so! Word going around the web today is that Paula Abdul isn’t returning to American Idol this season.  She is, rightfully so, a little ticked off that the Producers are screwing her over on contract negotiations.  If Ryan Seacrest can get a $45 million contract, certainly Paula should be getting at least $60 million. She’s more “vital” to the show than Seacrest. The Producers have opened a big can of worms by paying Seacrest that kind of money, because I’m sure Randy Jackson is looking around saying, “hey, what about a bone for the dog?”  While everyone is saying she’s not coming back, it’s just not going to happen, Paula’s coming back with a ridiculous contract and Simon Cowell‘s contract will be even more jaw dropping.  Auditions start in a month so we’ll probably know for sure by the end of next week what’s going on.

American Idol Winner: Kris Allen

I never watch recap shows and I kept that trend up for the finale. I watched Veronica Mars, played some Rockband Classic Rock (pretty nice set list), read a bit of the how to develop for Twitter book and sat in my Jacuzzi for a good 30 minutes, anything other than watching that 2 hour trainwreck.  I have to say, I was surprised at the choice in Idol Winners, I was going to make you click the read more button to find out, but what’s the point, I’m sure you know already – KRIS ALLEN is your new American Idol!  It’s pretty amazing that he won, he was this year’s Jason Mraz had the weakest voice of everyone, no personality, bland, predictable, but I have to admire him he stuck it out. I think maybe the judges constant pimping of Lambert and Gokey since week 17 finally turned off enough voters.

This choice is as much a repudiation of the Judges manipulations (especially Simon Cowell’s constant begging people to vote for Adam) this season than an affirmation of Allen. The folks over at Vote for the Worst are trying to claim credit, but it’s complete BS, because they didn’t make Allen their pick until the top 2. I think Adam got a little cocky in the last few weeks which ended in his off performance last night. But the Judges can take heart because they did get Adam to the Finale. I’m a little sad, because it would have been fun to have him be the first open, and I mean OPEN gay American Idol. But with all the horse racing upsets in the last few weeks, this is somehow fitting.

American Idol Top 2 Kris Allen and Adam Lambert

Tonight it all comes to an end; well, other than tomorrow night’s results show. The last Idol showdown and it’s all come down to the understated, no personality, weak voice Kris Allen, to the over the top, gay, Broadway screamer Adam Lambert. My money and everyone’s money is on Lambert moon walking all over the milk toast. But not so fast, the American public may shock us all and give it to Kris because they are tired of the Judges over pimping Adam.

Like I’ve said every week for the last 12 weeks, Adam isn’t good – he CAN’T sing! What he has is CHARISMA; he oozes it. I say give the Judges what they want I really don’t see Adam having a long-term successful pop career. Yes, he’ll be hot the first year, but I can’t imagine that screeching he does will have long-term viability outside of Broadway or Vegas. I can see him becoming really huge in those two forums but as a “Rock Star?” No way. Kris, I don’t know where he goes either or even what type of artist he would be. But despite my criticisms, I admire Kris, this is like the race between the Tortoise and the Hare. Slowly but surely Kris has quietly made it to the top 2 out of nowhere and despite all the odds. You have to admire that.

Of course I’m going to watch tonight, can’t help myself, but I don’t know if I’ll have the energy to do a Re-Cap unless something so over the top bad or good happens. I will predict that at some point tonight, Simon will tell Adam “He just won Idol with that performance,” and no matter what poor schlep Kris does, the Judges won’t’ like it. Well, they’ll try and be even handed and will rave on one Kris performance and slam the other.

American Idol Danny Gokey

Oh my god the bad singing Danny Gokey is gone from Idol. I know the judges are upset no way did they want Kris Allen to make it past the toop 6, that alone this far. He’s like the little rabit that could. So the big battle is no personality but good voice KrisAllen verses the over the top, bad voice gay guy Adam Lambert.  I’m torn as to who I would want to win. I don’t like Adam because a) his singing is terrible and B) it’s who Simon and the judges have been pimping out since day one.  But he oozes charisma, has that it factor and it’d just be funny to have the first open Gay, not only gay but Flamboyant Gay Idol.  Then there’s Kris Allen, so boring, no personality, looks pained whenever he’s on stage and has the weakest voice of all the contestants, he’s a sad little puppy who has been kicked around for the last 10 weeks.  Clearly Adam is going to win this thing, but I’m glad Gokey finally got the boot and the judges didn’t get the final they have been trying.
