David O. Russell’s little film about people with mental health issues didn’t just kick butt at the box office, it also tied Marvel’s The Avengers in MTV Movie Awards wins, nabbing Best Female Performance (Jennifer Lawrence), Best Male Performance (Bradley Cooper) and Best Kiss (Lawrence and Cooper). The Avengers took Movie of the Year, Best Fight and Best Villain (Tom Hiddleston).
Picture Perfect was the only other multiple winner, picking up Breakthrough Performance (Rebel Wilson) and Best Musical Moment. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn was held to one win (in a new category that seemed to be designed solely to give the franchise one last kick at the cat) for Best Shirtless Perfomance (Taylor Lautner).
A complete list of winner follows the jump.

The bigger surprise was the number of indie flicks that not only impressed me when I saw them, but stayed with me ‘til the end of the year.
Anyroad, that’s enough preamble. Follow the jump to read my Favorite 15 Movies for 2012.

David O. Russell doesn’t make the usual kind of movies. He mixes genres, twists things in upon themselves and looks at them from angles no one else does.
