It’s tough to do just a DVD review anymore since many movies, especially those being released by Warner Home Video, are being packaged as combos that include DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Download. So this is really a review of both the DVD and the Blu-Ray discs since both are included in the packaging.
It seems like only yesterday, but it was actually back in late April that I was sitting down in the theater to see an advanced screening of a movie called The Losers. The Losers, which is based on a graphic novel of the same name, was an all out action movie about a special-forces unit consisting of Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Jensen (Chris Evans), Roque (Idris Elba), Pooch (Columbus Short), and Cougar (Oscar Jaenada) who reluctantly join forces with a mysterious woman named Aisha (Zoe Saldana) to stop a rogue CIA agent named Max (Jason Patric) who burned Clay’s team during a covert military operation in Bolivia. Under the direction Sylvain White and the outstanding casting of the actors in the their various roles, The Losers was a non-stop thrill ride that I really thought would be a bigger box office draw than it ended up as. But then my inner child is a 12 year old boy, or so I have been told by my friends, so I might be a little biased when it comes to action movies with lots of explosions and wild chase scenes. I mean right after seeing The Losers for the first time, I wanted to go back and see it again I liked it so much.
To me the movie was a nice balance of action and character drama. Clay’s team of ‘Losers’ as he called them were a good mix of macho, funny and heroic. Aisha wasn’t some stereotypical ‘ model pretty, kick ass chick’. She had mystery and inner strength as well as outer beauty and combat skills.
So here we are, three months later, writing a review of the movie’s release by Warner Brothers Home Video onto a combo pack for home viewing entertainment.
