There are some producers whose stamp can be seen on a film regardless of who directed it [think Transformers – Steven Spielberg’s influence could be felt throughout, even above Michael Bay’s action sequences]. With I Am Number Four, it is Michael Bay’s influence that overrides D.J. Caruso’s direction in the final act – resulting in a film that may hew close to the novel [I haven’t read it, hence ‘may’] but falls apart, character-wise at the end.

MTV had caught up with director/producer Michael Bay to speak with him briefly about Transformers 3: Dark Of The Moon. Here is his comment about the story of the film:

“We just have, I think, a better story. It’s epic and it happens in a city, so it’s more accessable because you recognize stuff; it’s not in a desert. It’s kind of like ‘Black Hawk Down’ with our small group of heroes in a city”. Also in terms of bringing the third Transformers movie to life, Michael Bay had this to say: “I think it takes a while to get it right. We did not want the third one to suck. We worked extra hard.” Personally I’m looking forward to the third Transformers installment. You can check out the rest of Michael Bay’s comments with MTV below:

Maybe it’s just me, but I get the feeling that 3-D was made expressly for Michael Bay movies…

malkovich-mcdormand

John Malkovich and Frances McDormand are two of the classiest, most talented actors around. And now, thanks to today’s offhand announcement on Michael Bay’s website [https://www.michaelbay.com/newsblog/newsblog.html], we know that they and The Hangover’s Ken Jeong have signed on for Transformers 3.

Pre-shoots on the film begin in about a month.

Damn! Now I have to see it…

Transformers Blu-ray

After all the lip Michael Bay had against HD-DVD a few years ago, I expect every one of his Blu-ray releases to blow my eye-balls out of their sockets. The first Transformers Blu-ray effort was a beautiful picture but a pretty lame Blu-ray package. So I’m real curious to see what they come up with for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which despite a near universal critical pan (I kind of liked it, except for the screaming baby in my theater – no I won’t let that go!) became the biggest hit of the year. How does that happen when everyone claims they despised the movie. There’s a disconnect there.  And you know the Blu-ray/DVD will also most likely smash records. The TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen Blu-ray and DVD debut will be supported by one of the largest marketing and promotional campaigns in Paramount Home Entertainment’s history.  In addition to a multi-million dollar advertising blitz spanning television, print, radio and online, a stellar array of partners has joined forces with the studio to ensure that the AUTOBOTS’ message is transmitted to all of the Earth’s inhabitants.
Enough of my musings, the full press release is after the break.

Transfrmrs_2dsc_DVD_Front_Final

Remember when a little technology format called HD-DVD was around and Paramount pictures announced an exclusive deal with them? Michael Bay was loud and vocal about his distain for the HD-DVD format and his love of all things Blu-ray. Michael Bay, finally gets his wish. Transformers, is now available in a 2 disc Blu-ray edition. See where the battle began, as you witness Transformers in the ultimate high definition Blu Ray experience. Then go see, Transformers – Revenge of The Fallen – in theatres now.  Pick up Transformers  – The Two Disc Blu-ray Edition – including 25 minutes of all new content -  available on June 16th from Paramount Home Entertainment.  In celebration of this event, we have 5 copies of the standard edition DVD to give away. The special edition of Transformers is packed with extras (and more than a few product placements for Hasbro). The entire second disc is devoted to featurettes on aspects of making the technical tour-de-force–and the land mines involved in tinkering with a beloved ’80s franchise. Executive producer Steven Spielberg is very much a part of the proceedings, from his introductory comments ("I think everybody likes the idea of taking something you’re familiar with and turning it into something you’re not so familiar with–like an 18-wheeler become Optimus Prime") to mentions of his films that influenced this one, like E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
