It’s that time of the year! CinemaCon in Las Vegas baby. Every year Hollywood comes to Vegas to worship at the alter of the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO). The theaters bring all their stars as they give theater owners a preview of their upcoming slate of films. Today’s festivities kick off with International Day breakfast and luncheon.
We all know that movies have the power to inspire us in a variety of ways and when it comes to cinematic offerings with a gambling twist things aren’t any different. Often harnessing the glitz and glamour of exotic locations such as Las Vegas and Monte Carlo, gambling movies not only combine money, risk and excitement, they also conform to the age-old movie motif of escapism.
And that’s a wrap. The technology gods have folded up their tents, filled their suitcases up with all their gear and hopped a flight home. Of course I caught a cold, so I’m a tad late with my CES coverage, but what can you do? Before we get to the actual gadgets from the show, let’s start with some of the more fun aspects of CES Week.
I’m in Las Vegas this week attending The Official Convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), also known as CinemaCon. This is a week when Hollywood comes together with Theater owners to pat each other on the back and say “Job well done…” We also get a glance at what new technology and concepts will be making it to our local Cinemas in the next year. The exhibit floor opens today. Last night Paramount Pictures brought the stars out for a two-hour presentation of new footage from some of the hot upcoming releases. Due to embargo rules I can’t talk about much of what I saw. The two “watch” phrases of the night were “it’s a rough cut,” and “thank you Celine for letting us use the house that you built for the week…”
