Hulu’s award-winning hit drama series, The Handmaid’s Tale, will return for season two on April 25th with two new episodes, and subsequent episodes released every Wednesday.
The 13-episode second season will be shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead.

Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale has its lead. Joseph Fiennes will portray Commander Fred Waterford a powerful founding father of Gilead and the ruler of the household in which Offred (Elizabeth Moss) is a handmaid.

The success of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, and Spartacus: Gods of the Arena have given Starz its highest profile ever. Now, the network is returning to that mix of history and legend with its new series, Camelot [Fridays, 10-9C] – a stripped down take on the Arthurian legend.
On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to take part in a conference call with series creator Chris Chibnall and stars Joseph Fiennes and Tamsin Egerton who play, respectively, Merlin and Guinevere. Much of the discussion centered on the challenges of taking such a well known legend – and such archetypal characters – and making them fresh. Note: Our interviewees were on long distance [as in across the pond], so there were some occasional reception problems…

When it premiered last fall, FlashForward was considered to be one of two potential replacements for the departing Lost – at least in terms of epic, serialized storytelling. The series premiere set out the basics – for two minutes and seventeen seconds, everyone on the planet lost consciousness. In that time, they experienced visions of where they would be in six months time.
In my review of the premiere, I wrote, “While the premise of the series might seem to limit its shelf life, there are good people involved – and they were smart enough to hire Mr. Sawyer as a consultant. Put that together with a premiere that is superbly put together, with fine performances and a judicious mix of action and intelligence, and the result is one of the best hours of television ever made – and the best pilot of the fall season… in a walk.”
A man crawls from his overturned car, burning his hand on its muffler, which is now close by the window through which he has exited. The scene is chaos – the streets are filled with crashed vehicles; dazed and injured people are in shock. This is the opening of Flash Forward [ABC, Thursdays, 8/7C], one of two series the network hopes will be big for them [the other is ‘V’ which we’ll address in November].
The man who has crawled out of his vehicle is FBI Special Agent Mark Benford [Joseph Fiennes], who, with his partner, Demetri Noh [John Cho], had been tailing a group of terrorists prior to blacking out. Before long, we find out that apparently everyone in the world blacked out at the exact same time – and regained consciousness exactly two minutes and seventeen seconds later.
