An Irish priest in a country parish is hearing confessions when a voice tells him of how he was abused by a priest as a child and has decide that killing an evil priest wouldn’t get much notice but killing an innocent one would make a point. He gives the priest a week to get his affairs in order.

Sundance: Fox Searchlight Acquires U.S. Rights to Calvary!

Fox Searchlight has acquired the U.S. – and select international – rights to Calvary, John Michael McDonagh’s follow-up top the The Guard. Calvary stars Brendan Gleeson, who was spectacular in The Guard, as a priest in a small Irish town who is told by someone in confession that he’s going to kill him, ‘Sunday week,’ because he’s an innocent and that will mean more.

Calvary’s cast includes, besides Gleeson: Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids), Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), M. Emmet Walsh (Blood Simple, Damages), Domhnall Gleeson (About Time, Dredd), and David Wilmot (Ripper Street). Follow the jump for the trailer and the press release.
