Penny Dreadful: The Complete Series – Horrors! It’s Wonderful!

Showtime’s Penny Dreadful is a series about fighting one’s demons – whatever they may be – using a combination of characters from great literature and original ones.

Penny Dreadful: The Complete Series is in stores tomorrow.

Home Video Review: Doctor Who Power of the Daleks Comes Home!

The Doctor Who serial Power of the Daleks made television for one very simple reason: it marked the first time that a Doctor regenerated. In the opening moments, William Hartnell’s crusty grandfather-type gave way to Patrick Troughton’s cosmic hobo – and even his companions didn’t know what to make of him.

Troughton’s second Doctor was  more than a bit sillier than the original, but not less intelligent and resourceful. This was a Doctor who talked to himself and played his recorder to help him think.

After a well-received screening on BBC America, Power of the Daleks is now available on home video (DVD only, it appears).

Batman 66 Finally Coming Home!

CONAN_Batmobile_WB

The long standing licensing feud seems to be over. The classic Batman Series from the 60s is finally coming home. Many people thought Conan O’Brien was joking when he tweeted about this earlier, but darn if he wasn’t right. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will distribute the long-awaited BATMAN live-action television series (1966-68) as a complete box set later in 2014. More information to come. Obvious question is “Will there be a Blu-ray set.”

I can’t say that I’m particularly surprised by this announcement, Warner and DC did a lot of promotion of the Batman 66 during last year’s SDCC. Of course it turned out to be for the Comixology Digital Exclusive Comic. But hey, this was just logical.
