Oscar, Golden Globe, SAG and Grammy Award-winner Jennifer Hudson and multiple Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein will headline the cast of NBC’s Hairspray Live!
Fierstein will reprise the role of Edna Turnblad – the role he originated on Broadway to Tony Award-winning acclaim, and is writing the teleplay for the event.
Hudson, the third season winner on American Idol – and Oscar® and Golden Globe® winner for Dreamgirls – will star as Motormouth Maybelle. Follow the jump for details.

Along with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Maron (who have produced all of the network’s live musicals to date), NBC is putting together quite the team for its live production of Hairspray.
Joining the team are director Kenny Leon (The Wiz Live!, A Raisin in the Sun), choreographer Jerry Mitchell (La Gage Aux Folles, Kinky Boots) and script adaptor Harvey Fierstein (Hairspray, Torch Song Trilogy) – along with original songwriters Mark Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
Hairspray is set to premiere on Wednesday, December 7th (8/7C). For more, follow the jump.

The Wiz has been chosen as NBC’s next live musical presentation. The production will be executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron – but there’s a twist!
NBC will also team up with a new production partner – Cirque Du Soleil, whose new stage theatrical division will co-produce the live TV event on Thursday, December 3rd and then present it as a major Broadway revival for the 2016-17 season.
The Wiz will be directed by Tony-winner Kenny Leon with additional material by Harvey Fierstein.

Nearly forty years ago on the Great White Way, America was introduced to the beloved musical, Fiddler on the Roof, at the Imperial Theatre. Fiddler tells the story of a milkman who is used to the old traditions while the village of Anatevka turns upside down. With Zero Mostel at the helm on September 22, 1964; Fiddler has reached new heights by earning eleven Tony awards, countless revivals and a movie adaptation. Now the famous musical we had grown to love will tour across America one more time for its final swan song. If I were a rich man, I would go see this musical before it goes off into the sunset.
