Showtime’s Penny Dreadful is a series about fighting one’s demons – whatever they may be – using a combination of characters from great literature and original ones.
The series opened as a tale of a man trying to save his daughter from vampires and gradually, subtly shifted to his surrogate daughter’s fight for her soul. It was, in short, a masterpiece of supernatural suspense.
Penny Dreadful: The Complete Series is in stores tomorrow.

Tim Burton and Ransom Riggs’ Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children are made for each other.
The unique way that Riggs created a whole world of wonder and danger from a gathering of miscellaneous antique photographs has a feel completely unlike anything I’ve ever read – and its combination of very real characters and their very different ‘peculiarities’ always struck me as something that Burton could adapt into a strange and wonderful film.
Now he has, and the first trailer for the film was almost exactly as I envisioned it.
Now 20th Century Fox has released a behind-the-scenes featurette in which Riggs, Burton, and some of the film’s cast talk about their delightfully peculiar film. Check it out after the break – along with the film’s second trailer.

One of the best fantasy trilogies I’ve read is Ransom Riggs’ Peculiar Children books. The story of people with peculiar abilities that aren’t accepted in the regular world – and how they live in pockets of suspended time – is an ingenious one.
Now Tim Burton has adapted the first book, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, for film and brought to life its array of fascinating and peculiar characters.
The first trailer is something special. Check it out after the break. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children stars Eva Green, Asa Butterfield and Ella Purnell and opens on September 30th.

There’s a new trailer for season three of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful and it’s ominous. (What? You were expecting kittens and sunshine?).
Some of the more intriguing moments: The Creature discovers sex; a supernatural home invasion and a spooky take on You Don’t Know Me. Looks like more dark fun from what has become a pretty reliable thrill factory.
Penny Dreadful returns on Sunday, May 1st (10-9C). Follow the jump top check out the trailer.

While Frankenstein’s creations dance, and Eva Green’s Vanessa prowls in a proverbial rubber room in London, Josh Hartnett’s Ethan has been returned home. The new trailer for Penny Dreadful Season 3 bounces – or rather, stalks – between the wide open spaces of the west, Dorian Gray’s ballroom, Vanessa’s cell and other less refined places.
Check it out after the break. Showtime’s Penny Dreadful returns Sunday, May 1st.

If there’s a theme to Season Two of Penny Dreadful, it would seem to be that the hunters have become the hunted.

When Sin City came out, seemingly eons ago, the idea of a film being almost entirely CG was something that hadn’t really been done to such an extent. It was visually groundbreaking, technologically breathtaking, and for fans of film noir, exhilarating. A Dame To Kill for is still visually arresting and mega-noir, but its impact comes more from the performance of Eva Green than anything else.

When Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City came out, it was hailed as innovative, a work of genius. For the follow-up, the two have collaborated to adapt the Sin City graphic novel, A Dame To Kill For – and Miller’s name has been added to the title, hence: Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. The trailer has the same black-and-white-with-splashes-of-color noir look of the original film and is cool as all get out.

After rather too long, Frank Miller is once again co-directing with Robert Rodgrigues for a Sin City Movie – A Damn to Kill For. Let’s see if can pull it off this time and at least try to erase his The Spirit from our minds.
