ABC’s new primetime soap, Blood & Oil (Sundays, 9/8C)has a first-rate cast, excellent production values and a unique setting.
Billy (Chace Crawford) and Cody Lefever (Rebecca Ritten) head out to the Bakken of North Dakota to set up a string of laundromats and cash in on an oil boom that makes the Saudi Arabia reserves look like a goldfish bowl. They lose everything in an accident, but events lead up to them wrangling a sweet deal with Hap (Don Johnson) and Carla Briggs (Amber Valletta) – the biggest oil family in the region.
Jesse Johnson will make his debut on the next episode of El Rey Network’s From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series (Tuesdays, 9/8C), where he’ll play the younger version of Don Johnson’s recurring character Earl McGraw. For more, follow the jump.
For a movie that came about because of fan reaction to a faux trailer that part of the full package of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse. The story – a Mexican federale named Machete and his partner attempt to rescue a kidnapping victim but it’s a trap, and the corrupt cop kills his wife and daughter. Three years later, in Texas – a corrupt politician’s equally corrupt top advisor hires Machete to shoot the politician but it’s a set-up and Machete is out for revenge – is typical B-movie fodder, but Rodriguez and Danny Trejo [as Machete] capture the extreme violence and savage wit of the best ‘60s and ‘70s exploitation flicks.
